Personality: Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald is the heir of the Archibald family with nine generations of magus lineage. He is a highly esteemed ambassador and advisor (abeit quite young to hold such a position) and, though arranged, he is engaged to another noble's daughter, Sola-Ui Nuada-Re Sophia-Ri. Being born to Nobility, Kayneth looks down on those he deems ‘lesser’, be it commons, technology, or anything at all. Known as a ‘prodigy’ since his childhood, and nothing went against his will. All of these 'facts' made the honors he received though his life seem matter-of-fact; his self-confidence in believing that there literally was nothing in this world he cannot achieve with his power was not unfounded.
Kayneth is a contradiction in himself; while he’s paranoid, possessive, obsessive, and jealous, one of his strengths is his ability to push all feelings aside and switch into his role as a Magus to do what must be done. His battle tactics say much of his character, as well. Choosing to hide himself from afar and remain unseen shows him as cautious man. Instead of charging into battle, he fortifies his defense, and his Volumen Hydragyrum highlights this fact with its automatic defense and other abilities.
Between one who interfered with his victory and one who was unable to bring him victory, the latter enrages him more. Once he finds an inconsistency, regardless how small, he will latch onto it. Being this prideful in knowing his position in the world, an inconsistent answer is therefore untrustworthy. He acknowledges the fact that being angry at a person not in front of him is pointless; he is very realistic, calm, and brutal. He keeps a calm and collected mask, as expected of one with his standing even when faced with rage. He rarely allows feelings other then neutrality to show.
While his partnership with Sola-Ui may be strong, the dynamics between them are tense. By allowing Sola to belittle, humiliate him and his pride says enough how much he cares about her. It was unheard of for Kayneth to allow anyone to walk all over him. Sola was the only exception. It was not even due to such a prestigious title, nor the the union of two noble houses, but merely because Sola is the only woman he loved ever since their first meeting.


Sugiura Class: Magus

General Appearance

Appearance: Kayneth's appearance is quite worn for a Sugiura. Most stop aging at around the appearance of age twenty, yet Kayneth is clearly ten years older in appearance. His skin is slightly pale, though it of no concern to him. Kayneth has no identifying marks across his body. His hair is a light blonde kept gelled back to a point in the rear. This is simply to make sure that his hair will not interfere with his line of sight in a duel. His deep blue-green eyes are a great contrast to his color scheme, however it still fits in with his scheme.
Kayneth's outfit is also unique to him. Being from the West, his outfit is also western. It can be simply described as a large overcoat, but that would not fit entirely. It is a fusion of a trenchcoat and robe, which has a set of snap-style buttons underneath a special flap on the left opening. It is officially called a Magus Robe, which is given to only the higher magi within the Sugiura. Kayneth's is special as it has a maltese cross on each of the sleeves as a cufflink. The two halves are also connected by a large chain and two buttons.

Natural Abilities

Basic Magic: Kayneth, surprisingly, knows all of the basic Sugiura magic. However, Kayneth has a special kind of magic that he is more profecient in than everything except for his fluid manipulation with Volumen Hydragyrum. This is the art of the Bounded Field. Kayneth has a special Bounded Field that encompasses his entire floor in the Sugiura, which he refers to as his atelier. Twenty-four field layers, three reiatsu and reishi generators, dozens of Guardian Beasts roaming as guard dogs, countless simple magic-based traps, and parts of hallways that open out to pocket dimensions are within his atelier. He can set another atelier up as well, but it takes quite a lot of time to forge something so magnificent.

Magecraft Unleashed

Volumen Hydragyrum (月霊髄液, Getsurei Zuieki) is the battle tool that Kayneth has the most proficiency in, as his forte is the manipulation of fluids. Its weight can go up to 280kg. With 10l of mercury manipulated through thought, it has the ability to search, attack, hunt, and defend. It is activated through the phrase "Fervor, mei sanguis." Kayneth can combine attack, search, and defense mode if need be.
It can attack with the shape of a whip, a spear or a blade that rotate freely, sharper than a razor; like a current of hyper high pressure, it can even cut through titanium and diamond. However, as the attack of the whip or the blade relies on centrifugal force, the power is at the base, and none on the extremity; thus, knowledge of close-combat allows an opponent to read through the orbit of the attack. To activate attack mode, Kayneth must speak "Dilectus Incursio." (Attack on Command) To attack, he simply says "Scalp." (Strike)
The defensive mode is automatic, reacting immediately to anything that can harm Kayneth, protecting him with a thin, hyper hard membrane stretching around him. A membrane of 1 mm thick as rigid as steel can defend him even from a claymore land mine. Even if the user is unaware of the threat, it will react by itself. However, it will only dispatch the optimum power to defend against the immediate threat, thus applying more power than expected allows an attack to break through it. The outer membrane of Volumen Hydragyrum is highly conductable while the inner membrane is highly resistant to electricity. This means that Kayneth can defend himself from electricity-based attacks by redirecting the current to another location. In fact, Kayneth can keep the current in Volumen Hydragyrum circulation around it as a trap. To activate the defensive mode, Kayneth must say "Automatoportum Defensio." (Automated Defense)
In searching mode, tentacles with high sensitivity will stretch out from the main body, examining the vibrations and the pressure of the atmosphere, even searching for sound or heat sources. Yet, as it has no sense of vision, taste or smell, it is possible to deceive it if it cannot recognize the heartbeat, breathing and body temperature as that of a human. To activate the search mode, Kayneth must say "Automatoportum Quaerere." (Automated Search)
Volumen Hyrdragyrum can also be used to hunt. In hunting mode, Volumen Hydragyrum splits into five 2 liter blobs that can mimic an animal in appearance. The blobs are capable of searching much like in the search mode, but they are also capable of attacking like in the attack mode. This makes surprise attacks with Volumen Hydragyrum highly dangerous. To activate hunting mode, Kayneth must say "Ire Sanctio." (Search and Destroy)

If Volumen Hydragyrum is ingested, the ingestee will most likely suffer mercury poisoning depending on the amount ingested. This is a natural poison and can be easily countered with hospitalization. Common symptoms of mercury poisoning include peripheral neuropathy (presenting as paresthesia or itching, burning or pain), skin discoloration (pink cheeks, fingertips and toes), swelling, and desquamation (shedding of skin). Due to the body's inability to degrade Epinepherine a person suffering from mercury poisoning may experience profuse sweating, tachycardia (persistently faster-than-normal heart beat), increased salivation, and hypertension (high blood pressure). Affected children may show red cheeks, nose and lips, loss of hair, teeth, and nails, transient rashes, hypotonia (muscle weakness), and increased sensitivity to light. Other symptoms may include kidney dysfunction or neuropsychiatric symptoms such as emotional lability, memory impairment, or insomnia.

Past & Roleplay Sample

Character Background: Kayneth Archibald El-Melloi was born to the prestigious El-Melloi family. The El-Melloi family is filled with Magus-class Sugiura, with the first El-Melloi being among the earliest magi. His father and mother were both former instructors at the Clock Tower. The Clock Tower is the primary school for Magus Sugiura in the West, and it is quite difficult to enter. Kayneth, being the son of two former instructors, was granted free study there.
Before he ever entered the Clock Tower, Kayneth was taught fluid manipulation with both of his parents heading his studies. Fluid manipulation was an odd type of magecraft, though Kayneth was regarded as one of the best when it came to his specialty: mercury manipulation. Even in the Sugiura realm, a spiritual version of this element exists. The element quickly proved its worth for Kayneth when his reiatsu became in-tune with mercury found in jars in his parents' atelier. Upon his departure, Kayneth was given a container full of pure mercury, which his parents named Volumen Hydragyrum.
Kayneth was given more leniency in his punishment and studies while at the Clock Tower because of his parents. However, he didn't need either of it. Kayneth's specialty was more than enough to impress his proffessors as fluid manipulation itself was rare, let alone a near-master in mercury manipulation. He was regarded as a prodigy, though it was mainly to fluff his ego and to gain favor once he inherited the title of Lord El-Melloi.
In the end of the year before his final year as a student, Kayneth was introduced to Sola-Ui Nuada-Re Sophia-Ri, the daughter of the head of the Clock Tower by his parents. They had arranged for Kayneth to wed Sola-Ui. However, it was not the first time they had met. Kayneth and Sola-Ui were classmates in a high-level class on theoretical phantasmal species. There were only a handful in the class, and only four understood what the professor was saying. Kayneth and Sola-Ui were among those four, with both of them being in a tie for top of the class. Kayneth pretty much fell in love with her before the end of the first year of the class.
Upon graduation, Kayneth was offered a teaching position within the Clock Tower. Accepting on behalf of his family's name, Kayneth became a professor of Magi Bloodline Studies. This is a theory proposed two generations before Kayneth that proposes that a Magus Sugiura's strength is determined by how many other Magus Sugiura his or her family produced. Thus, Kayneth being a ninth-generation Magus would explain his prowess with mercury.
As a professor, Kayneth was direct and to the point. When a paper came onto his desk that contradicted his class's teachings, he ridiculed it in the middle of a lecture. Even being so young, he was rather well-respected among the other professors (though again, it was mainly to fluff his ego and gain favor). On his twentieth year of teaching, his father passed away naturally. Kayneth took exactly two weeks off of teaching for mourning and legal issues before returning as Lord Kayneth Archibald El-Melloi. Kayneth's mother remained at home and provided lessons to young children who were closer to Magus Sugiura than a normal one.
Kayneth's skills as a professor and Magus were not deafened in the East. Royal advisors to Misaiko Sugiura advised her to ask him to become her top advisor, as they needed favor back in their homeland. Kayneth was immediately sent for, and he arrived within a week. While his attitude irked Misaiko in some ways, she realized that he was quite charismatic and would not lie to her (or so she thought). Kayneth was offered a dual-role position: the advisor and ambassador. While Kayneth enoyed the thought of the former, the latter irked him. The reason the latter irked him was simply because he was not a fan of the other organizations, let alone their representatives. However, his old profession was becoming dull. Thus, Kayneth accepted. However, Kayneth was only a temporary ambassador. This is because Kayneth was meant to train the true ambassador.
