Natural Abilities
Natural Abilities: Expert of self-defense: As a woman hailing from a financially endowed family such as her own, there is always a stigma attached in the minds of criminals. They feel that their crimes can easily be justified, and so their deeds reach the highest realms of cruelty, all so that they may sate their greed. Kimiko had once almost been the victim of a robbery that nearly cost her her life. From that day thereon, she came to a decision. She would train herself in the way of self-defense. Whenever she was not raising her wonderful children, she was attending self-defense and martial art classes. Although inept in the ways of spiritual power, Kimiko has enough strength to lift furniture that most men would require a partner to achieve. Most punching bags that she uses as training usually never survive the end, and it is said that depending on how angry she gets, she can dent steel, depending on the density. She is always very wary of her areas and never has a lethargic step in her gait. The only way to catch her off guard would likely be to intiate a sneak attack.

Character Background: Kimiko Shimotomai was born in Tokyo Japan. Her birth occured when Tokyo was on the bleeding edge of developing new technology, so she was born in a more modern day Japan compared to most. She was an only child which would become the basis for why she would want to have a larger family upon reaching adult age. She was born to a family who were quite rich. However, Kimiko had no desire to feed off of the riches of her parents.
From the earliest age of eight, she had decided that she wanted to be her own woman, make a name for herself among the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. And with thought imbued within her psyche, her journey towards the life she wanted to create for herself began. Her grades were exemplary, her work ethic was impressive, soon there was no reason for her parents to doubt that Kimiko could handle herself well without relying on their funds. Of course, as they were parents who actually cared deeply for her, they saw fit to give her a few funds.
Kimiko didn't have any complaints. She enjoyed to use the money when necessary, yet always made it a personal goal to establish that she could bring glory to her family’s name without having to rely on her family.
Most of her life through high school was uneventful. She was so deeply attuned with the thought of success that she never really experienced the high school pleasantries that most others reminiscence on, even recollections with which parents use to tell their children of their own experiences is something Kimiko is unable to do. Success was all that mattered. Whether having her nose buried deep within a book or going to extra classes to gather information, Kimiko was slowly but surely forgetting what it meant to live.
She had met a man who would later become her husband, a man who changed her life for the better, showing her that one could indulge in pleasure while still ruling over their education with an iron fist. He carried an air of maturity not found in many young men, and he, too, related strongly in their ideal of no-nonsense work ethics.
This fine man promised her that were she to give him the chance, he would show her how to enjoy life while maintaining her business-like approach. And within weeks, their love flourished as beautifully as a newborn flower on the dawn of autumn. Kimiko didn't grow sluggish in her work ethic. In fact, with the addition of love, life was becoming something much more beautiful. There were times were the only thing occupying her days was her lover, and when college graduation was near, the two had decided to get engaged. Once their college life was complete, the chapter of living a house wife was next. On their first honey moon, they had made love, and with that love, an abundance of children followed suit. The first year, they gave birth to two twins; Maya and Saya. The second, although they weren't twins, they gave birth to two boys, Daichi and Rin. Throughout these years, Kimiko earned enough money to begin funding her own company. She amassed fame as a popular fashion expert, as well as making another company that dealt with technology.
Each of these corporations was run with her husband, so the two could switch between being at work or at their home at their own leisure. However, it wasn't until Kasumi was born (their fifth child), that Kimiko decided to be a stay at home mom. She can’t place her finger on it, but there was something about Kasumi that made her love her unconditionally. Within the family, it was soon established that Kasumi was Kimiko’s favorite, at least among the brothers and sisters. She was mommy’s special girl, and Kimiko spoiled her without reserve. When she reached six, however, things would take a slight turn for the worse. During a camping trip with the entire family, Rin decided to follow Kasumi to a lake and pick on her, as big brothers are wont to do. Kasumi threatened to notify her mother of Rin’s bullying, and as Rin knew that their mother could be strict whenever they got too out of hand, he decided to concede defeat, but not without throwing her necklace into the water.
He chuckled as he walked away, leaving her to find it for herself. And with that lapse in judgment, Kasumi hit her head, fell into the river, and was eventually found by another family. When Rin returned, he instantly alerted his mother. Now if hell had a name, then at the time Kasumi went missing, Kimiko became hell incarnate. Her husband would have to calm her down on a daily basis, and constantly prevent her from lashing out at Rin or giving him a beating. Due to her family’s influence, Kimiko and the family were able to find out about the whereabouts of Kasumi. Unfortunately, Kimiko didn't quite think out a proper strategy to confront the American family who had adopted her….And so, they….had to kidnap her.
Kimiko felt guilty, of course. Taking a child away from a family who actually treated her well was a hard pill to swallow. But her love for Kasumi could not be assuaged, so she went through with it. They successfully kidnapped Kasumi, taking her back to Japan. However, upon her return, there were some noticeable changes in her demeanor. She spoke English…. Wore western clothing… and did not enjoy being around them as she did once before. She would cry, scream, and act out constantly. It was heartbreaking for Kimiko, but she persisted in her efforts to help Kasumi remember that they were her true family, not the ones in America. Kimiko was at a lost as to what she could do to convince Kasumi that she wasn't Katherine. It wasn't until Rin, the source of her anger and turmoil, talked to Kasumi that she started to become more relaxed, or at the very least, decide to give them a chance.
And so it was established. Kasumi decided to give them a chance to help her remember that she was a central part of their family, and if not, they promised her – even though it would break Kimiko’s heart – that she could move back to her family in the United States. Additionally, she requested to see a paternity test in order to see if there was any truth, and it came back in favor of the Shimotai. Even though one would deem that Kimiko’s story was finished…. She had a goal. And that was to help her daughter remember her childhood or die trying.
