For someone who once held such a high position, one would think that he'd be recognized by more than just the gate guards. Well, that's not really fair to say since Tsubine had not seen a single soul—get it?—since entering the Seireitei. In fact, someone might just ask how he got in. Well, being the former leader entitled you to a few benefits. One of which was the ability to still enter the Seireitei without having an escort. He was even allowed to keep his weapons. Though there was one restriction... he had to keep his reiatsu pretty much concealed. Which was no problem, although it did get a little bothersome.

To be quite honest, Tsubine had no real business to be in the Seireitei now. He wasn't going to see an old friend, have a spar with a Captain, or anything of that sort. He actually normally would decline such offers. Instead, Tsubine just wanted to see what all had changed in the nearly 30 years since he last stepped foot in this place. And to his surprise, it didn't seem as though too much had changed. But that surprise was a good one as evidenced by the smirk that had slid onto his face. There were no radical changes which made Tsubine feel more at ease with choosing Genpaku Arishima as his successor.

While thinking on if he should go and see his successor in person, an... extremely familiar figure walked across his path, following a street in between courtyards. Essentially, it had come to a cross-shaped intersection, and this figure had walked straight across one arm while Tsubine was walking across the other arm. Now... this was an interesting one. Someone he'd... well, had encounters with before. Not just a brush-by encounter... but this is one of the many people whose lives were saved by Tsubine. But this figure —who was in no way male—in particular was one of the few that Tsubine saved personally. He walked to the intersection and stood in the middle, directly behind her as she kept walking. But this woman... Tsubine had actually respected her. That's why she was in the running to be his successor. Her name was

"Hatakeyama." Tsubine's voice was not cold, but it wasn't warm. It was a knife. It had a sharp point but there was that serrated and rough edge. Her name was Kaminari Hatakeyama, the Captain of the Fifth Division. Tsubine had not seen her face in nearly 30 years, yet he could still give an accurate description of her. If Tsubine had not wanted to test Genpaku Arishima, then she would have been his successor. "It's been nearly thirty years."

Stone Walls and High Tensions [CLOSED] Kaminari-AngsanaNew_zps81bf9c55

Everything was quiet through out the Seireitei and had been for a few weeks. It was strange to feel so at peace when everything was usually a mess. Among the maze like walkways of the Seireitei, was a young woman who had been around for a good length of time. Kaminari Hatakeyama, Captain of Squad Five was walking quite casually through the area lost in her own thoughts. Numbers and names were flying through her mind at a mile a minute while she attempted to remember the different cases in the paperwork she was supposed to be filling out. In fact, that was why she was out here, to relax. She was not expecting what happened next in a million years, let alone... "Twenty nine years, eleven months, three weeks, and six days to be exact..." Kaminari had instantly recognized that voice, even with the slight changes his tone may have held from before. She stopped dead in the middle of the walkway and turned herself slightly in his direction. She didn't hold a smile or any welcoming expression, "At least that's how long it's been since you threw the entire Seireitei for a loop and chose a Lieutenant over a Captain to take your place as Captain Commander." There was definitely a harshness in her tone. She had held onto that for years. It's not like she had ever gotten a reason why. He just vanished after he made his announcement and randomly decides to show up now?! He abandoned everyone after shocking them with news no one expected and then just up and left! Did he have any idea how many people were hurt by that decision? Kaminari being one of them! Sure, she was pissed off that he left and of his decision, but he was also a friend who just abandoned everyone. She was getting angrier and angrier as she thought about it, but even then... After a few moments a soft smile inched onto her face and she let out a relieved sigh. She turned to face him fully and stepped over. The little girl in her wishes to tackle hug him, while the professional in her kept her from doing it. "It's nice to see you again Tsubine... How have you been?" she asked as politely as one could sound until a sudden glare came on her face, "... And what the hell are you doing here? ... Very rarely do people who leave the Seireitei as suddenly as you did and for any extended period of time come back with a peaceful set of mind." That definitely seemed to be the history of the Seireitei. Most who did leave this place do not come back with good intentions.

"And six hours." Tsubine played along with it. He could tell that she was pretty much stabbing him with words. Which was a lot better than the alternative of her sword. And her anger was justified... if it was what Tsubine thought. It's true that Tsubine had just up-and-left. It's also true that Tsubine chose his Lieutenant over a Captain. However... Tsubine still felt that he had done the best thing. "Things needed a little spice. I may have put too much spice by the way you're sounding." Tsubine was a little worried by how irritated she sounded. And truth be told, he actually didn't have any sort of diplomatic immunity... so she could legally strike him down if she felt the need for it.

But the animosity soon dissolved, and that's good. It was good to see a smile on her face. She wasn't all serious. Granted, it's not a bad thing to be super-serious... but this was one of the few people Tsubine would actually call a friend. "To answer 'how have you been' when I've had everything that happened over the past thirty years... I don't think it's a simple answer, but let's go with 'good' for now." I mean, Tsubine had things that happened to him that most people have never even thought of... such as a race change over to his now-dominant Sugiura blood. I mean... you try to explain that in a single word. But that nice feeling didn't last too long, as a bit of that animosity returned. At least she didn't look like she was about to cut him in half.

"Would you believe me if I say I'm here to take my job back?" Tsubine's face was as serious as could be. There was no tell. There was no smirk that showed that he was lying... although he was. Tsubine had no intention—let alone a right—to return to the Gotei in any form and/or fashion. He was no longer a Shinigami, so it was truly out of the question. Power-wise... he probably still could control the Gotei and have a respected position. However, he didn't want that. He had his own people to look after. "Because if you did, then I really have to worry about you."

Stone Walls and High Tensions [CLOSED] Kaminari-AngsanaNew_zps81bf9c55

Kaminari actually felt her left eye twitch a few times when he put in the hours. Sure, she counted, but she wasn't that insane and it actually almost made her laugh, but she held that back out of her own irritation. "A little spice would have been having a female Captain Commander for the first time, not some Lieutenant with no experience." Kaminari crossed her arms along her chest and raised an eyebrow at his reason. Though after her own little thought process, she calmed down and everything was okay again. No point in taking out anger on him now, though she could kick his ass (or attempt to) if she wanted to just because he was here seemingly uninvited. Asking him how he was came with a length answer. "So literal, as always. Have you lightened up at all?" Kaminari shook her head and chuckled a bit. "His job back...?" thought momentarily hopeful, "Hahaha no." was what came out of her mouth next. Yeah. She would have to be worried about if she thought he was coming back for his job. Twenty-nine years, eleven months, three weeks, four days, and six hours passed and now he'd want him back? Doubtful. "For one, most people actually enjoy having a steady Captain Commander and Captain's for once, so the likelihood of acceptance is actually a little low. After all of that bullshit, we needed something to stay the way it was... In a way, you not choosing me was a blessing in disguise." she said and then let her irritation drop again. Her expression softened to content and a small smile returned. "First Aizen left, then you, then Yuri, then Snopy... So much change within Squad Five, the members were becoming extremely dishearted. Though I was angry at first, a young man explained that to me... and I was glad to stay. So... in a way... thank you for that." Kaminari's smile grew a bit as she stated her appreciation of his decision, "Though don't go trying to say that's why you did it. That night I got to see exactly why you chose him and since then I've been supportive of your decision. It still hurt though... Why'd you just leave like that? You'd think that you'd have enough loyalty tell people what's actually going on."

It would've been interesting to see what she would've done. Or rather what any female Captain-Commander would've done. Tsubine wouldn't've had Kaminari with a 50/50 shot if he didn't think she could've done great things. Hell, Tsubine thought she still could do great things. "I can't really say I have or haven't." Honestly, he couldn't say either way because he didn't know. "I suppose I have a little... but I can't tell. It all begins to blend into the same pot." Tsubine was talking about how all of his sentences all went into this "void," where it'd almost seem a bit empty. It was like he was missing something... but he hadn't figured out what it was.

The former Captain-Commander was definitely glad that she didn't believe him. It would've been very troubling. "I'm glad you didn't believe me. I was serious about the concern if you did." Tsubine looked towards the Captain of the Fifth Division and he could tell that she had a different look to her. And that look could only be described as maturity. While there was definitely that physical maturity that comes naturally with age (and drinking lots of milk), there was a mental maturity that takes actually going through hardships to gain. "That's good to hear... that you actually support my decision. You definitely have matured... in more than one way." She'd know what that was a stab at, and Tsubine wouldn't have made such a comment if he didn't feel he was close enough to actually say that.

"But don't thank me. Even if it's just an 'in a way' thanks, I don't want it. The fact you stayed there isn't because of me. You could've left after I made that decision, but you didn't. Not that I think you would've, but it was a possibility." Tsubine had more faith in her than to be a whiny crybaby and just up and leave because she didn't get her way. He would have been immensely disappointed in her if she had. "Though you're right, it wasn't because of that. I never really thought about the effects if you had left, actually." Tsubine didn't think about that... he thought about who was best for the job and that was it. "And the fact I didn't think about that is just more reason why I'm glad I left." Tsubine's current attire was almost a mirror of a standard Captain's. He had a white kimono with a black-and-red trim with a black haori over it. With his crimson eyes and golden hair, Tsubine truly looked like the opposite of a Shinigami... further proving he no longer was one.

"I was an emergency choice. In case something happened, that's why I was chosen. There was only faith in my abilities to lead... and that's why I was unfit for the position. I may have done good for the Soul Society and the Gotei—but I always wonder if there was someone who could've done more. The fact that I never thought to question how my successor's Division would handle the changes is proof enough that it's better that I no longer lead the Gotei Thirteen. I was part of the 'old guard,' and the Gotei needed new thinking. Former Head Captain Yamamoto needs a true successor, not an emergency one."

Stone Walls and High Tensions [CLOSED] Kaminari-AngsanaNew_zps81bf9c55

Oh yeah. She knew what he was taking a stab at and immediately felt her face becoming warm as she began to blush! "Oh shush!" she said, flustered at his comment. She wrapped her arms across her chest to cover it up and stared dully at him. Kaminari glanced away with a guilty expression when he said not to thank her. Yes, he was right. She could have left completely if she wanted to, but the memory of that night still haunted her. Any time it came to mind, she felt like an idiot. "Yeah... You're right." she said in a calm tone, slightly whispering it. It was then that Kaminari began noticing something, his attire. His clothes were so different, pretty much the exact opposite of what she was used to seeing him in. In a way, it bothered her. It made her curious as to what he had been doing over the years. With the haori, it even looked as if he were part of some other organization, but which one? Is that why he left? Admittedly, her heart sank a little at that thought, but she shook it off quickly. Also... something about him was different as well, something within him. She was just not able to put her finger on it. What was it!? And then he explained. His position on his decision and being an 'emergency' choice was understandable. "I wonder if he ever wanted the position then..." she thought. Looking back to him, she blinked a few times and decided it was time to change the subject. "So, since you're not getting your job back..." she stated in a tone that almost sounded like he wasn't allowed to, "... what does bring you here?" She began walking again, motioning as if she wished for him to walk along with her. There wasn't much that the two of them could do, except walk and talk. Kaminari had been out here to relax anyway. She wasn't exactly expecting to run into an old friend, let alone the former Captain Commander. Oh well. Time to catch up! "Anything new for you in the past twenty nine years, eleven months, three weeks, six days, and six hours?" she asked him, going along with their smart ass counting routine.

Tsubine smirked a bit at her reaction. Of course he wasn't checking her out or anything... she wasn't his type for one (and for two, he saw her more as a friend, nearing family than anything else), but that was a trait she was constantly picked on for. But enough of that talk. That guilty look she gave just made Tsubine think he had upset her... but the truth was the truth. Tsubine wasn't one to sugar-coat things to make them pleasant. But at least it didn't last too long as she motioned for him to follow her. For once, the roles were reversed.

Tsubine didn't quicken his pace to catch up to her. No, he did something that... well, it wasn't necessarily approved of. In a flash, he had moved from the intersection to right beside the Captain. While Tsubine was a former Captain and Captain-Commander, the fact he was able to move so quickly with a Shunpo while also keeping his Reiatsu essentially hidden was impressive. It's something that showed that he had the physical skill to lead at least.

"While I'm not here to get my job back..." His head tilted backwards, gazing at the clear blue sky and roofs over the stone walls. "I do want to know that I made the right choice with the leaving and all." He paused for a moment and continued to stare above the duo. "And..." His gaze lowered back to normal, seeing what was ahead of him and not above. "I think I made the right choice." He was exceptionally proud of what had become of the Gotei, even just on the surface. He left it in capable hands... though Kaminari was no less capable than Genpaku.

And now for the hard question. What was new. He'd slide it in there, continuing from his job statement. "And besides... I don't think anyone in the Gotei would approve of someone of a different race altogether leading them even if I wanted it back." There it was. That kicker. Yes, Tsubine was no longer a Shinigami. He was a Sugiura... though I guess you can say he never was a true Shinigami, as he was a half-blood of Sugiura and Shinigami descent. He had 'inverted' his dominant side to become a Sugiura-dominant half-blood instead of a Shinigami-dominant one. "And before you ask—yes, you heard that right. No, I'm not dead again. No, I'm not a Vizard. And no, I'm not some new race created out of nowhere." He wanted to cut those questions out of the way... as they were what anyone would ask first.

"I am... well always was technically, a Sugiura. I guess you could call the race an... evolution or mutation of Shinigami... but it's not something everyone can attain. I, apparently, was the product of a Shinigami and a Sugiura's love for one another... but my Shinigami side stayed dominant until about 27 years ago." He was very... direct with his explanation. He also didn't leave out too many details, although he really didn't want to imagine his parents 'creating' him. "But enough about me. I take it these past twenty nine years, eleven months, three weeks, six days, and six hours have treated you well."

Stone Walls and High Tensions [CLOSED] Kaminari-AngsanaNew_zps81bf9c55

Kaminari's mind definitely did not go to The Tsubine Zarkonheinz checking her out. Not only could she not see it, but if the thought was ever brought up she'd laugh and say something along the lines of 'as if'. She also was not shocked that he used some sort of technique when catching up to her, though it only confirmed that something about him was different. "Oh, you couldn't get your job back if you wanted it. We've grown to accept Genpaku and the stability he offers. Way too many shifts in authority after the Aizen bullshit... Way... to many..." she said as she glanced away with a sigh. She wasn't used to having his energy around anymore, so she could not place it for shit. What came next she was not expecting though, she did not even guess that his entire being would hav-... No he didn't change. From what he was currently explaining, he always was a Sugiura. "No wonder you have so much bad luck with Shinigami women." she said with a raised eyebrow and stated in a joking tone, though she was wondering if he understood what she was hinting at. Probably a bit of a low blow, but she felt that he deserved it with how hard his choice hit her, so... about half way even in her mind. He went on and actually asked about her, but that stumped her. Nothing had changed, at least nothing more than what he pointed out so sneakily before. "Yeah, I've been well. Not much has changed with me..." she said almost as if she was disappointed at the fact, "I can't exactly remember everything about before you left... Some of it I've tried to forget, a lot of it actually... Everything in my mind is jumbled up... You know I can't even put faces to a lot of the memories I've got?" She chuckled at the thought, though it did upset her. "Though... There is one thing..." she said in a regretful tone, "I went after that hollow you didn't want me to go after... I'm sorry. I should have trusted you and listened..." She set her hand on her stomach as she thought back on that day, wondering what his reaction to that was going to be.

Tsubine readjusted the sword on his waist. "Even if I took it back by force?" Tsubine knew he wasn't some other-worldy deity that could handle the entire Gotei 13 on his own. God that was ridiculous. Though, fighting the Gotei would give his Kyuu Kyou a super advantage... But again, Tsubine didn't want his job back. "That was a joke, by the way." He didn't want to well, you know, fight her because he had joked about overthrowing the government. I mean, who does that?

"No wonder you have so much bad luck with Shinigami women." "Hey now, that's a bit of an overstatement." At first, he completely understood her. Then flashes of a kind and beautiful face popped in his mind as if it were a slap on his face. He didn't know if Kaminari was referring to that or not... but it did linger in his mind. He spoke again, much softer this time. "There was something that wasn't simply bad luck—I had my reasons for it." You could almost hear a bit of sadness in his voice... as he did feel bad about that. Even for the strong man with those piercing crimson eyes, that wasn't a subject he liked talking about. Not one bit.

"Hatakeyama." That sharpness returned and cut away the morose tone in his voice. "Even if you can't remember the past, that doesn't meant it can't be learned from. In fact, I'd find it to be a great learning experience. Make memories that, no matter what happens, will stick with you. I've been aliv- ... around for nearly a millennium and I can still see the many faces I've met. Don't ask me to put a name to them, I'm horrible at names." Even though the last bit was true, it was meant to lighten the mood a bit. "And even though I still see their faces... it doesn't mean I won't forget them. There are people who have left such an impression upon me that it" His hand gripped where his heart is "is burned deep into my being. You need to make memories like that." His hand returned to his side. Although it sounded like a bit of a tangent... Tsubine was trying to give her something to counter her worries over her memories. Although...

"Idiot." Tsubine's voice wasn't cold. It definitely wasn't warm either. The best way to describe it was a tone of 'I was right, wasn't I?'. "But..." It quickly warmed up. "You're still here and you look to be in one piece, so something went well at least." Tsubine wasn't disappointed in her. He'd be more disappointed if she had not told him and he found out anyways. There was a reason why he didn't want Kaminari to fight that Hollow... but at least she fessed up to it. "Besides, it sounds like it wasn't under my watch. I couldn't order you to not go after it anyways. Though it is dead, right?"

Stone Walls and High Tensions [CLOSED] Kaminari-AngsanaNew_zps81bf9c55

Though it was obviously not going to happen and a semi-joking sounding, Kaminari just gave him a dull look and raised an eyebrow about him 'taking it back by force'. A moment later, a small smile formed and she just shook her head at him. "I know it was a joke..." she said, chuckling through the sentence. "A... What? An Overstatement!?" Kaminari was actually stunned by that, "How is that an overstatement!?" Kaminari looked to him as they walked. Tsubine might of gotten what she had said, and she hoped so. She noted the sadness in his voice and decided that was enough. That was when she decided to answer his 'how are you' question and went on a tangent about how she couldn't remember a lot of things. He stopped her and she looked to him again, listening to what he was telling her. "Well then... you're bad with names, I'm bad with faces. Let's put those together and remember everything." Kaminari chuckled a bit and then was shocked by him again when he gripped the area around his heart. She blinked a few times, her own heart racing at the stuff he was saying. She couldn't remember seeing him like that, ever. It was relieving, but still shocking. "Hm..." she blinked at him and thought back, "I... have one memory like that." When then explained to him about the hollow she went after even though he had told her otherwise. The first word out of his mouth was an insult, causing her to shoot one intense glare towards him, but that soon changed when she sighed and began laughing at it. "Yeah. I'm here because of Genpak-... the Head Captain. If he hadn't come after me, I'd be dead." Kaminari rolled her eyes playfully at that memory, "And yeah. It's dead. Genpaku showed up at the perfect moment, like something you'd see in a movie or read in a book. Right as I was about to be sliced down the middle.. or whatever... he randomly appears and stopped him..." She became lost in thought for a moment and then pat her stomach, "Yeah... first and only time anything has been able to leave a scar too. Funny thing is... I don't regret it..." She smiled happily up to him and then thought of something, "Oh... Is there anyone else you want to see while you're hear? If any positions have been changed since you saw them, I can point you in the right direction."

"I don't think combining that would be too good. People might start trying to rely on us for that instead of this." As he said 'this,' Tsubine shook the handle of his sword. It's true that Tsubine was not known for being a good diplomat. He wasn't a good speaker. He was respected, feared, and known for being a killer. Well, to some ladies he was known as a damn good lover, but that's not Kaminari's case... at least as far as Tsubine remembers. And like mentioned before... Kaminari wasn't his type. No... but this was reminding him of someone else. Someone he never could forget. The nostalgia of being back in the Seireitei brought back memories of a rainy night where he met a woman who gave Tsubine feelings no other woman (or man, although he didn't swing that way even if they were cute) could match. He had been thinking of her lately... especially in the last few decades. Tsubine felt as though he could feel her when back home... but it was so faint it was impossible to tell. Wanting someone to return does that to you.

"You have a bad habit of referring to someone of higher status by just their first name, then correcting the mistake... and then returning to their first name." Tsubine noticed that she did this when talking about Genpaku. As Tsubine was not of lower status than Genpaku, Tsubine would not call Genpaku the 'Captain-Commander' or anything honorific-related. Genpaku was another of the people Tsubine was close to in the Gotei. There were a few others... but another name stuck out in Tsubine's mind... as well as her action of always being in Tsubine's shadow. She was someone Tsubine had not thought of in many, many, many years.

"It's good you don't regret your scars. If you regret a scar, it's saying that whatever happened in that situation wasn't of worth. Sure that was a simple hollow extermination, but if you get scars in war from defending your brethren... then if you say you regret it, then that's saying that all of the ones that didn't come home meant nothing." Why the hell was he getting all philosophical all of a sudden, Tsubine had no clue. He just... knew this gi- no, this woman before him should be one to have Tsubine's wisdom. She may not agree with it, but she can use it as a springboard into something she does believe. As long as there is something they are willing to fight for... as long as they can solidly say that 'this is what I fight for,' then Tsubine held them in respects as high as his own blood.

"Anyone I want to see..." Tsubine's head tilted back in contemplation. To be honest, not really. But... that isn't to say he wouldn't mind seeing other people. He just didn't want to go 'I want to see X, Y, and Z.' He'd feel like he was forgetting someone, and perhaps other people would think that he was forgetting them. "I can't really say there's anyone in particular. If someone else had asked the question instead of you, I wouldn't 've said you... although it is good to see you. I just don't have the want to go see any one person in particular." Tsubine wondered if there was anyone that wanted to see him now, actually... but that wasn't something he'd ask.

Stone Walls and High Tensions [CLOSED] Kaminari-AngsanaNew_zps81bf9c55

"Ha..." Kaminari chuckled at the relying comment. Yeah, he was probably right, though she seriously did hate not being able to remember everything she wanted to. "Ah... yeah, I know. I know I'm supposed to act as a Captain and refer to people in a respectful manner, but it's hard when you're good friends. It was the same with you, which is why I hesitated saying your name before." She told him, glancing towards him with a 'yeah that's right' look, "I couldn't tell whether you'd cut off my head for disrespecting you or not." That was a bit of an exaggeration, but at the time she remembered being slightly intimidated by him. "Oh-ho it was worth it! Snapped me back into reality, definitely." Kaminari said and followed it with a short chuckle. She had to admit that having him around again felt sorta natural. It was too bad he hadn't come back sooner than this. He had been missed by her, but probably a few other people around here. Kaminari also had needed to get that damn bug off her shoulder for the past twenty nine years, eleven months, three weeks, six days, and four and a half hours. Yes, four and a half hours, since that was about the time that little incident was over after he left. She thought about what he was telling her over the scar subject for a moment before asking him if there was anyone he wanted to see. Kaminari had to fight a raise of the eyebrow when he told her that there wasn't anyone. Seriously!? Dude, ha- Her? Ha. Not so harsh. All that told her was that she was the only one he was concerned about when entering the Seireitei again. Hehehehe, Ego BOOST! Anyways, Kaminari smiled softly and shook her head at him. "You really haven't changed, and if you have you're not showing it. There are probably a few people, at least two that I can think of right at this moment, that would not only be shocked to see you, but likely enjoy it as well." Kaminari looked back to him, her smile dropping a little, "Can you really think of no one? One would be heart broken if she heard you say you didn't want to see them..." Okay, even Tsubine can't be that dense! If he was though, she'd take that as them completely leaving his mind, so she was going to drop the subject completely. No point of trying to bring something like that around when they obviously weren't on his mind.

"That's why you're fit to be in a high position like you are now. You'd get too friendly with your superiors. I can't even imagine what Captain Kuchiki would do if you called him by his first name." While Tsubine said that, Byakuya did indeed sneeze. However as he was filling out paperwork with a window open, he believed it was nothing more than something airborne. "But getting friendly like that isn't a bad thing when you're the higher rank to a degree. Eventually getting too close can result in a bias that won't end well for anyone."

"Since you're a friend, I would've just cut off your last two fingers on your dominant hand instead of your head." Tsubine was joking about that to Kaminari. He would've just given her a bit of a glare if she insulted him. And by bit, it'd probably be more favorable to have your neck cut off than to be on the other side of those crimson eyes. Anyone beneath his level of friendship—and that he could legally do that to, since he can't really do that to some random Shinigami—that wasn't as much of a joke. But why those two fingers? Well, simply put those are the fingers where the sword is gripped tightly in all schools of Japanese swordsmanship. The last three fingers hold the sword tightly while the thumb and other finger are loose. By cutting those two off, then there would be no way for them to properly use their sword if it were a katana.

Tsubine had a small laugh at how confident she seemed about that scar. Depending where it was, Tsubine may ask to see it later on. If Tsubine were to strip down to just his underwear, he'd be scar-ridden. Countless years of battle upon battle had left his skin rough. And he did not regret any of the countless scars on his body. That includes the ones that weapons did not create. In other words, those of the soul. Tsubine has definitely had his share of bad luck over his life, but he didn't mind it necessarily. Tsubine felt all those shaped him, and he would be nowhere near as wise and strong had those things not happen to him.

"Like I said, I can't just say 'I want to go see this person.' I'd always feel like I'd forgotten someone, and my time here is limited so I can't go see everyone." Tsubine had a feeling who she meant by this. It had all started to piece together like a 10,000-piece jigsaw puzzle. And as more pieces combined, Tsubine could see the picture. Strong, yet kind scarlet eyes. Even more formed larger blotches on the grand image. Long, ravenesque hair. And then memories began to pour in. A sword that would protect his back. Tsubine felt a little defeated as he let that get past him. However, he's not someone that generally thinks about those types of people. Not that they don't mean anything to him, quite the contrary. They are generally the people Tsubine holds closer to his heart. Tsubine believes that if all he does is think about them over and over, then he may get doubt in his mind. Doubt over what, even he's not sure. That did remind him of a single thing he regrets. It is the only thing he has ever regretted, but it did not have anything to do with anyone in the Seireitei.

And even though the pieces came into play, Tsubine wasn't exactly going to let Kaminari win. Tsubine had a feeling that if he admitted she was right about that, he'd never hear the end of it. "Let me put it another way. Is there someone that wants to see me?" If he could make her say it, then it was all still good.

Stone Walls and High Tensions [CLOSED] Kaminari-AngsanaNew_zps81bf9c55

"Oh. You mean Bya-kun?" Kaminari said with a cutsie voice and put put on the most fake, cute, sweet smile that you could probably think of, actually attempting to hold it. A moment later, her face soured and she looked away, mentally slapping herself. "That was just too awkward. I couldn't speak of Captain Kuchiki in that manner away from him, let alone to his face." Kaminari actually felt a shiver, shuddering as a chill went up and down her spine. The rage of her fellow Captain would likely be unimaginable if he ever, ever heard her even attempt a single hint at calling him such a horrid nickname. Kaminari was still in disbelief that she actually said that. She was just glad that Captain Kuchiki did was not around to hear her speak in such a manner, though that did bring up the question of what he actually would do. It's not like the two of them were close enough to be on even a first name basis. Now she only wanted to test that. Mission: Call Captain Kuchiki out of his name just to get reaction and do not do it in front of anyone or imminent death...

"Hey, I thought that was only if I had stolen something!" Kaminari raised her right hand, wiggling the last two fingers. She knew his reasoning for choosing both of those fingers, though she felt the punishment a little harsh. Oh well. It was a good thing it was just a joke. Or was it? Kaminari blinked a few times at the thought of him being serious about doing something like that. "I hope you're joking..." she said, staring at him with slightly widened eyes, "You know what... Don't even answer that. Say nothing. Off of that subject..." Kaminari shook her head and looked forward, noticing that the two of them were coming on a building that should be pretty damn familiar to Tsubine. A small smile moved onto her lips as she motioned for him to look forward; in front of them being the building the Head Captain says in. " Sorry, but I can't tell you whether there is someone who 'wants' to see you, Tsubine." Kaminari said as she looked back to him, "And I think you know exactly who I am speaking of. Knowing you, you just don't want to admit that there is someone you need to go see. She's probably somewhere in there as well. The only reason I don't know whether she would 'want' to see you is because of how you left. You have a problem, you know? Not saying a word to anyone was not good. To be frank, you broke her... again." Kaminari hated saying it because she cared 100 times more for Tsubine than she did the girl, but he needed to do something. "Well... Here is where I think we part ways. I'm glad to see you again. Hopefully you'll be around a bit more, but there's a certain Fourth Seat I need to meet up with." Kaminari sent a wave, a smile, and then turned away from him, "Be well, Tsubine."

Yet again, Byakuya sneezed. Something must be in the air. Tsubine, however, actually chuckled pretty hard at Kaminari calling Byakuya 'Bya-kun.' Not even the adorable lieutenant of the Eleventh would do that... and even so, Kaminari didn't have that same cute factor that she did. "Even I would be afraid of his reaction if you called him that." Tsubine respected the Sixth Division's Captain. He was wise, strict, and damn strong. However, Tsubine was never really close to him. They served at the same time as Captains, and that's about it. And then they arrived at the First Division offices. His earlier thoughts were right—dead on center.

"So subtle." Tsubine did, of course, know who she meant. He had known it for a short while now. And yet... they didn't pass along her name yet. Tsubine knew it would be better for her name not to be mentioned, else wandering ears could hear and spread rumors that would end up hurting the anonymous girl's heart. And Tsubine, ironically enough, didn't want that. "I still don't regret it, even if it did cause some problems." Tsubine referred to his earlier statement about scars with that. He, honestly, did not regret that. He still believes it was the right thing to do at the time. As she waved, Tsubine did not wave back. He nodded at her, acknowledging the idea that things would stay well for him. "Hatakeyama. I thank you for this, but I will warn you that sometimes getting involved with people's lives like this... Eventually the day will come when you'll have to choose one person or the other in terms of who you want to support." His parting words were more like a warning for her to stay away from that aspect of his life than just a general warning.

Opening the grand doors in front of him, Tsubine began the trek to an office he knew well. "Not being 'able' to say anything says more than being able to say something, you know. And what is up with women butting into people's private lives like that." Referring back to his 'So subtle' comment earlier, Tsubine mumbled to himself. As soon as she said that, he knew he was right. Knocking on the door to this office, Tsubine expected to be greeted with a slap. However, it was just some other officer who had just woken up from an afternoon nap. He then asked where that person was, and they explained that she was now the Lieutenant. That made sense, as Genpaku was promoted. At first, they didn't recognize Tsubine, but as he turned away they said "Wait... are you...?" Tsubine turned away and began walking to the next-highest office. "If anyone asks, you just spoke with a phantom of a bygone era."

Walking up to the door, the confident Tsubine... actually hesitated before knocking. However, it didn't last long as four raps on the door followed about thirty seconds after arriving at the door. He kept his composure. It wasn't as though he was nervous about seeing her again and was just being 'solid,' to pass those thoughts away. Tsubine was not nervous. He was just preparing for the worst. If she slapped him, he deserved it. If she tried to cut him down, he may not deserve that much, so he may back away from the swing to avoid getting killed. But unless she did something like release her Zanpakutō, Tsubine would not raise an arm or anything. As the door to the office opened, his expression changed. Even with Kaminari, it was somewhat cold. But now, this was warm. A soft smile and those sharp crimson eyes proved it. "It has been a while, Yua."

Stone Walls and High Tensions [CLOSED] YuaIchinose-FrenchScriptMT_zps04f7e21f

The day had come quite a long time ago, but this young woman was still in bed. After hours of paperwork being completely from the night before till just a few hours ago, she needed sleep. She was quite relaxed, sleeping deeply when someone had woken her up with a knock on her door. "Mm..." Yua's eye slowly opened as she rolled from her side onto her back. She was still tired, drowsy from the lack of sleep. She hadn't even attempted to sense who was standing outside. Before they would get impatient, Yua hopped up from bed, hair a bloody mess, but still dressed in the Shinigami uniform. Yua went over and opened the door, expecting it to be someone completely different. But when her eyes met chest and moved upwards to a familiar face, she blinked a single time in disbelief. "It has been a while, Yua." the voice said. Yua had no idea what to even say at this point. She was speechless. "Capta-... Mm... Tsubine." she said his name just to confirm exactly what she was seeing in front of her. It took a moment, but once it registered, he got exactly what he had expected from her. Her red eyes slowly narrowed at him in an intense anger and she swung her right hand across his face as hard as she possibly could. He could take it. Once that little burst of anger was exerted, she stepped off to the side, "Wanna come in?" No matter his answer, she left the door open and stepped back into her room before walking over to her bed and picking a brush off of the night stand. She brushed her messy hair back and set it back down. "What exactly are you doing here, Tsubine?" she asked in a low, almost uncaring tone. Even his smile through his greeting was unable to break through the facade she had, unlike before. He used to be able to manipulate her quite easily with mere words and a glance. "I can't see you coming here to see me." Yua said as she shuffled through a few things, picking up a piece of paper and setting it on the inside of her uniform, "I mean, it's not like you gave enough of a damn to tell me that you were leaving thirty years ago, why the hell would you care to come see me? I mean... It's not like I was worried, or assumed you dead." Through this entire time, she refuse to even look at him. Her tone was cold and uncaring, though her chosen words would usually imply differently. It'd likely be hard to read whether she was being sarcastic or really had not given a damn. Once she was done, now wide awake, she turned back towards him and stared, awaiting his answer.

Well, it's what he expected at least. A little bit stronger than he had remembered, which did surprise him a bit. Although Tsubine would have been far more surprised if she had hugged him. Then he'd wonder what the hell happened to her. And of course his face stung from the slap. There was even a little cut from something, though he didn't bother to clean the blood that slowly seeped out until he could feel it on his cheek. With that amount of force, it'd be a shock if her hand didn't get a bit sore. And then she invited him in. Even though it was her territory, Tsubine couldn't refuse. In fact, it was because it was her territory that he couldn't refuse. By putting himself in a semi-disadvantage, it'd at least prove that he was serious about this. "I doubt saying 'no' was ever a choice." He followed her inside, having a bit of a soft dry laugh as he closed the door behind him.

Tsubine had seen her look far worse, so seeing her with a little bit of bed hair was not something he minded. On her, it was even a bit cute. However, he no longer thought of her that way. And yet, he still had some things to clear up from when he did. The fact his smile couldn't change things was evidence enough. Although he never did, he had joked around that his smile—due to its rarity—was able to coax her into doing whatever paperwork Tsubine didn't want to do. Now, those days were gone. "You've got me there." Tsubine sighed a bit, letting her finish talking. Tsubine knew she was... well, I don't believe a word exists for how she must have felt. The sadness, anger, and... whatever else existed in there must all be swirling around in a torrent of confusing, with anger taking the center-stage with him around. "I can't say that I made a special trip just for you to the Soul Society. As for why I'm here—" He was referring to her office, or rather, the meeting with her. "—I had a bit of guidance to push me here to do something I should have done long ago. So, I'll get right to the point."

What was about to happen was something that even Tsubine can't remember the last time it happened. Unhooking his sword from his side, he knelt down and placed it beside him. His gaze was at the area right before Yua's feet. Tsubine... was essentially kneeling in respect of Yua. In this situation, Tsubine felt as though he was the lesser. Although he had much more power and experience, in this case... he was the one that would be showing this respect. "There are no words that can mend what I've caused you. There are no words that I can say that could allow me to mend what I did to you." Neither of these were referring to him just up and leaving. No, this predates that by about 500 years... "My actions were unjustified. Although that man's foolishness still plagues me, I am no longer affected by it like I was then. I can not condone my own actions. I was naive to the point of stupidity. Although... I still believe the choice I made was the right one, it was done in a manner most foul. A manner most unworthy of being presented to you."

Tsubine's head still hung low, a certain fire burning in his crimson eyes. He was truly not regretting ending his and Yua's relationship. He had loved her... but it was like Iori. That was a strong, fast-burning kind of love. However, it was also very, very different. Yua still meant something to Tsubine. Yua may not be a love interest, but even now she had some sort of pull over him. I mean, he was kneeling to her in respect. He had wronged her, and now... now it was time for him to admit he was wrong. "And as for when I left... I do not regret that either. I do admit not telling you anything was not the best course. However, I went somewhere where you couldn't follow me. I went somewhere that changed me. I guess you could say I found myself there. But by not telling you anything... that really wasn't the best idea. You deserved better than that. I know that this isn't enough for you to forgive me. However, I want it to serve as proof that I am entirely serious about repenting for the sins I've done to you." That fire in his eyes was proof enough that he was serious, but him essentially prostrating himself before Yua was further proof.

Stone Walls and High Tensions [CLOSED] YuaIchinose-FrenchScriptMT_zps04f7e21f

"You could have said no, but then that'd likely make your trip here meaningless, don't you agree?" Yua said with a hint of venom in her words, referring to him coming to her room, "It's not like I could ever tell you what to do anyways." Yua waved her hand a bit, trying to rid it of the sting she felt after smacking him. She had almost done that on instinct. Normally she wouldn't have put such an amount of force behind hitting someone, especially him. Oh well, obviously there was something within her that felt he deserved it. As she began messing around in her room, she heard the door shut, but still kept her back to him. This was very odd for her. She had no idea how to feel. Anger, frustration, regret, relief, happiness... All of it was flooding her at once and she could not tell which of these feelings were dominant. And he wasn't exactly making her feel better about any of it anyways. Sure, she knew her words were the truth. He had not come to see her especially, but hearing it said out loud stung just enough to make her close her eyes, resisting the urge to roll them out of annoyance. It would have been nice to hear a kind word from him. In fact, in many years she could not remember receiving a single one. "A bit of guidance?" Yua froze in though for a moment, wondering who in god's name would have pushed him here. Of course, at this moment Kaminari sneezed and blamed Byakuya for likely backstabbing her in unintentional revenge, but anyways... Yua turned to him and just stared straight into his eyes with her stoic gaze, not breaking eye contact with him through out the duration of him speaking. Yua heard and took in every single word he said, but what she was seeing was more astonishing than anything she had seen before. Tsubine von Zarkonheinz was kneeling, lowering his head to her. She couldn't tell whether this meant he held her in high respects or whether his wanting to make amends was this strong. At the same time, she couldn't help but wonder whether he wished to make amends for her, or was it for himself? Did the memories of the past hurt him enough because he knew so strongly that what he had done was wrong? Or was he really out to make her feel better?

"I... Hm." Yua stared at him, shocked at what had just transpired, "I have no idea what to even say to you." She still did not look away from him. Yua clenched her hands into a fist, holding them tight enough that they began to tremble. "I want to be able to say it's okay, but it's not. I want to say I forgive you, but I can't." she told him, for the first time speaking her mind and not allowing his words to change the way she felt so easily, "You have no idea how hard you've made everything for me. I can't trust anyone. I refuse to allow someone to get close to me because I know they'll just toss me aside once I'm no longer of any use or they find something better. I have no friends. I can't smile. I can't laugh. I can't remember the last time I had fun. I don't even know what I'm doing with my life anymore... The bad part about it... I'm aware of it. I know how stupid I am, how foolish it is to feel this way, but I'm scared to death of changing it. There are times that I wonder if I even want to change it." By this time Yua's entire body was shaking in anger and regret. She began clenching her jaw shut, speaking through her teeth as she attempted to hold back the tears, but her fight was pointless. Her tears fell. She attempted to keep an emotionless face, but it was obvious that she felt. It wasn't obvious what she felt, but just that she did. "And the worst part about it is that I know it's my fault. I was stupid enough to allow my life to revolve around one thing, one man. I followed you. I am the one that kept coming back for more. It's all on me. I was an idiot then... and... I obviously still am... because... I still can't bring myself to even dislike the one person that caused me so much pain..." Yua's eyes were slightly widened and red, her cheeks flushed as well while tears soaked her face. Finally she had said everything she needed to. It only bothered her that it didn't change a damn thing...

"If it were that easy, I think a letter would have sufficed." Tsubine felt that if he had gotten off that easy, something was up. And that something would not have been good for anyone, especially Yua herself. Tsubine didn't cry. He knelt, his face strong and silent. It showed not regret, but disdain for his own actions. It wasn't becoming of him nor worthy of her. It was something that some bastard would do to someone he didn't care about. And although he had been a bastard to Yua, he did care about her. Not in the sense of a lover, as those days were long past, but in the sense of a confidant. Someone who was closer than all else, but never meant to be together. Someone that would always have the other's back, the best supporter of all. And yet... he treated her that way. He felt disgust at himself the more and more he thought about it.

"I know it's not okay. I know you can't forgive me. And I don't expect you to ever forgive me. However, I want you to know that I, Tsubine Zanifir von Zarkonheinz the Third, swear on my honor as a man that what I did to you was wrong. That what I did to you hurt me because it hurt you. That you deserved better. That you deserve better." Finishing up that, Tsubine looked up at her. His crimson eyes met her scarlet eyes. That fire of repentance was still burning as bright as ever as he grabbed her trembling fist.

"Yua, you are one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Do you really think I left or didn't say anything because you were useless to me? That's what you should feel stupid about, although I can't blame you for thinking that way. I was a big enough bastard to earn that much. For the sake of the world, you're someone that's irreplaceable in how much you've always meant to me. You've always been at my side, someone I could rely on. Someone I could trust. And although I was a bastard in how I've treated you, I still trust and feel I can rely on you... at least in theory for the latter since I doubt you'd do any favor for me right now." He let out a light, dry chuckle. "However, you're not the stupid one. I am. No, I can't say that basing your life around me was a great plan... but I knew that and still did that to you. So what if you followed me around and you kept coming back for more? I was the one that treated you worse than you ever could deserve."

Tsubine brought his finger up to her face, wiping away a tear that fell across her now-red face. "If you can't bring yourself to dislike me, find someone who can surpass me. Yua, all I want is for you to be happy. I wronged you, that much is certain. I doubt I'll ever fully be able to repay that debt. So... find someone that can. Find someone who can treat you better than I can. I know you can, Yua. If there is anyone that deserves to be happy... it's you."

Stone Walls and High Tensions [CLOSED] YuaIchinose-FrenchScriptMT_zps04f7e21f

This was harder than it should have been. With everything she said to him, with everything out on the table, with absolutely nothing held back, he was still melting those ice walls she had put up. Stop it, stop it, stop it!! She needed to break free from him, but he always pulled her back! Sometimes she wondered whether it would be better for her if he just vanished and never, ever returned! But if that were the case, she'd never get closer and never would feel whole again. Still, the moment he took her hand, she felt herself weaken both physically and mentally. She held her ground though. She will not show anymore weakness to him, ever. Yua stood strong, never breaking eye contact as he replied to her words with sincerity. How could he be so cruel!? Yet so kind in the same instance... His touch. He grabbed her fist and she couldn't keep it balled anymore. She loosened her hand on instinct and wrapped her fingers around his grasp. Though her hand was all he could feel, her entire body was trembling with emotion she could not control or understand. She hated this! Yet she loved it. He had actually gotten down on one knee to show how serious he was, but she never wanted this! She wanted him for so many years, but she knew exactly what this meant. He wasn't coming back, ever. He came back to the Seireitei, as her friend, as an old superior, but never as hers. It was something she was going to have to respect and accept. He had moved on, it was her turn, but could she?

Tsubine continued to demolish the gates around her heart with his words. Breaking eye contact for the first time, she followed his finger up to her cheek and closed her eyes once as he wiped a tear away. As she felt his hand pull away, she opened them back up again to look at him. This was strange to her. He did care for her, but not in the manner she longed for. It was time to accept that and let them both move on in life, though she would admit that at this point she was going to move on for his sake, not her own. Finally, she stopped shaking and the tears ceased. She calmed down and took in a deep breath. "I will never forgive the past. There were way too many ways you could have dealt with breaking my heart, Tsubine... Some probably would have helped it from shattering." Yua closed her eyes and sighed. There wasn't much else to say to him, except one thing she felt she needed to be let known. "It is obvious that you're gone and you aren't ever coming back, so I will move on as well." Yua told him as she pulled her hand away from his, "I also know that I will never stop loving you, I will keep my promise and never betray you. If you ever need me, call for me and I will be there... But, Tsubine... I need you to leave... Leave until I can figure out what I am doing with my life. I..." Yua stopped for a moment. Was she really saying this to him? Did she mean it? Yes. She couldn't turn back now. She took another deep breath. "I can't see you again if I am ever going to move on. I hope there becomes a time that I can, and if that happens I will call for you... then, and only then, will I forgive... and thank... you for every single thing that you've done." Yua stared down at him, her expression completely serious, even if she was breaking inside. She needed this. This was her closer.

"I couldn't possibly count all the ways I could have done you better.  That's proof I'm not your missing half." Yua was right. She couldn't move on with him there. She couldn't move on with him possibly returning to the Soul Society. The closest person to him there was her, and if she didn't want him there... then he'd abide by it. It didn't surprise him either. He was the dick of all dicks to her. He was someone that some would call just a harmful person. However, he was trying to fix that. He'd do whatever it'd take to see her be with someone who could make her happier than he did. "Keep that promise until you find someone better than me. Then give them that honor. I don't deserve it... but I will hold onto it and cherish it until you find the person better for you."

"Yua. I'll go as far away in this infinite universe as you want if that would allow you to move on." He grabbed her hand that she had retracted and kissed where a ring would have been. Following that, he stood up—his larger frame towering over the tinier Yua. He was almost an entire foot taller than she was. "If this is indeed goodbye, you make sure... make sure that you find someone that'll make you happier than I ever could. I won't hear an 'I will' or anything like that... Because as a friend as a former superior... that is my last request of and order to you. I won't take 'no' for an answer, so there's no reason for you to say 'I will.'" He reached over and patted the top of her head twice. Turning around, his smile returned. This was a smile of... no emotion. It did not convey happiness or anything like that. No... Tsubine was just content that he knew Yua would be able to move on. It may be an arduous journey, but she was tougher than she looked. To be able to face him like that with just a slap was proof enough of that.

The sword he had picked up was placed back on his side as he opened the door. "Take care. And don't name one of your kids after me. The name is cursed." He didn't wave as he closed the door, saying that. He honestly had no idea if she wanted kids... but it was still something to point out.  He wanted her to be happy... and her kid having his name would probably keep bringing back bad memories. Well, that aside... it seemed as though his job here was done. "Are you happy, Hatakeyama? You put her through a lot today." He was hoping she'd go in a sneezing fit.
