Basics
Name: Asuka Toshikage
True Age: 280
Appearance Age: 28
Gender: Female
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 135
Appearance: Personality: Asuka is bossy, blunt, and can be insulting when she feels someone deserves it. She likes to get things done without any problems and highly dislikes it when those problems do come up. She doesn't take excuses and will become stricter towards a person if they give them often. She will tell a person what is what, not caring towards their feelings, but this is only if they deserve what is coming to them. Her bluntness can sometimes move into insulting. If someone does something she doesn't like, for example: listens to a private conversation, peeps, or stalks, she has no problem getting in their face and calling them out of their name to get her point across. Being insulting will always be out of professional circumstances. Asuka takes pride in her job, the Gotei, and her Squad, so when on duty, a mission, or in the presence of her superiors, she will behave and keep her words to a minimum, though that will not stop her from shooting a glare if needed. Asuka has a respect for authority and feels honored when someone of superior rank trusts her with a task. This is party why she doesn't take excuses, bosses people around, and becomes strict with people. She doesn't want to mess up. It satisfies her and gives her a sense of peace when things are done correctly. She also lives as honorably as she can. She doesn't lie. She won't leave a man behind. She won't hurt an innocent. She knows what is morally right, and even though she is usually one to follow the rules and obey the laws, she will not sacrifice her honor to obey the laws put in place by man.
Even though Asuka does have a habit of being bossy and can come off insulting to some people, she is kind at heart. She doesn't like hurting others, in most cases, and can even feel guilty after insulting someone, even if she knows they deserved it. Unfortunately for people who attempt to befriend her, Asuka isn't easily impressed. Things that can impress her are rank and power, but she knows that it isn't really that big of a deal. She prefers a good personality over a large energy amount any day. And unlike a lot of other girls in the world, Asuka doesn't swoon over a man because he is good looking, rich, and powerful. A lot of men in that area are inconsiderate jerks with an inflated ego and no knowledge of the real world or it's problems. In other words, a rich spoiled handsome brat is not usually going to impress her. It is possible to happen at first look, but after? Ha! No. Asuka is also not a person to become excitable about almost anything. There are a few things that have the ability to get her excited, but she doesn't express it. She is not emotionless. She'll still smile, giggle, maybe laugh, and she'll definitely look at someone like they're stupid, shoot a glare, or roll her eyes depending on the situation. Becoming her friend really isn't a big deal either. She actually has an easy time talking to people and enjoys getting to know certain types of people. Having a normal conversation with her a couple of times, keeping up with your work, and just being a nice person will put you on her good side. Because she doesn't get really hyper or excited, some people come to the conclusion that she's not a nice person or doesn't like them. The assumption is usually wrong.
Asuka does not like it when things are messy. She prefers it to be organized, clean, fresh, and neat. Even though she likes animals, she won't ever have them around their things because they mess everything up. She likes the smell of lavender, tea, and certain cologne's men wear. She enjoys regular ramen noodles, yeah the cheap stuff, but her favorite foods are yakitori (grilled chicken on a stick). She doesn't like constant sarcasm, people being rude, disrespecting superiors or authority, law breakers, dishonorable actions, or seafood of any kind. She's allergic to peanuts and shellfish. Asuka also suffers from claustrophobia, the fear of being trapped or enclosed in a small place. Because of this, she doesn't like being told she can't leave a place, nor does she enjoy staying in a room for long periods of time, even if the room is of decent size. If the room is on the larger side, she'll be fine, but she will have to get some fresh air if it's anything the size of a master bedroom or smaller. In minor cases, she'll get a headache and want to leave. The stronger the feeling gets she can feel dizzy, start to sweat, her breathing can become labored, or she can feel faint. At really bad times, she can even hallucinate that the room is getting smaller. On the more positive end of Asuka, she does have a love for many different types of teas. She feels they calm her down, keep her nerves settled, and help her relieve stress. She can be caught drinking it a lot and will even bring little packets on missions to make sure she has a decent amount because of how much she enjoys it.
Side Notes: She wears glasses when she feels she needs them, which is usually when dealing with paperwork or reading a paper with a large amount of writing on it. Asuka's favorite color is lavender. Asuka and her Zanpakuto Spirit, Katarina, rarely get along because of Katarina's constant challenges and need to kill, while Asuka prefers a more honorable way of dealing with opponents and enemies she comes across.
Character Background: Unfortunately, Asuka is one of those people that do not remember their life before they arrived in the Seireitei, if that was what happened before her first memory. Her first memory is when she opened her eyes to look into the eyes of an elderly woman with grey hair and then having her arrival explained to her. For months she was silent. She kept to herself and didn't ever talk to anyone but this elderly woman named Yoko. Yoko sheltered her, taught her the ways of the Rukongai, and cooked for her every night in hopes of her getting her memories back. After a while, Asuka gave up on her memories and decided to start helping out instead of thinking her memory loss was due to injury or sickness. She always felt fine, so she didn't think that she had been hurt, nor did she feel she was sick, so why make an older woman do everything on her own? Even if she insisted! Either way, Asuka began helping around more, doing the shopping, and taking care of Yoko, instead of the other way around. A few years passed and Yoko passed away, leaving Asuka alone, but that was okay. She buried Yoko under a large cherry blossom tree that Yoko loved when she was alive, and then decided it was time to move on with her life. She began travelling through the Rukongai, trying to find some sort of purpose, unsure of what she would do now that she was completely alone. After some time, Asuka found herself in the inner most part of the Rukongai, right next to the Seireitei. There she learned about all of the Shinigami and the Shino Academy, where they learned everything they knew. She had no idea how to test whether she had enough spiritual pressure to join the Academy, so she didn't bother with it for a while. Instead, she continued travelling and unfortunately found herself in the Zaraki District.
Everyone there was either on edge or wanting to start a fight. She quickly learned to stay out of sight and avoid most people, but that didn't work very well. She wandered into an area where a few of the more 'foul creatures' of the District were. A few of them attempted to pick a fight with her, asking if she was 'strong enough' to even be in their alley. Of course she replied in a manner that they didn't like and when she tried getting away, they grabbed her. In an attempt to get away, a burst of energy shot out from her body. It was not that much at all. It was actually quite weak and they laughed at her for it. So now, scared and embarrassed, she didn't know what to do. When one of them went to harass her again, someone appeared that no one was expecting. A young woman with lavender colored hair and eyes had actually come to her rescue. Without any hesitation, the woman just jumped into battle and beat the crap out of every single one of the, shocking Asuka quite a bit. After such, the woman introduced herself as Solas and a member of the Gotei. She offered to get Asuka something to eat and some tea and Asuka gladly accepted, tea being the main selling point. In fact, that was a big topic of their conversation, tea... and then Asuka could not help but ask about the Lavender color hair that Solas had. It was Asuka's favorite color and frankly she found it beautiful. After that, Asuka accompanied Solas back to the Seireitei and lead her to Shino Academy, helping her enroll and getting her started on her journey to becoming a Shinigami.
Asuka didn't see Solas as much as she thought she would after that. Upon her graduation, she was placed within the Ninth Division of the Gotei under Captain Hijikata. She tried keeping their relationship at what it should be, Leader and Subordinate and so far that was working quite well, though she did hold him in high respect. He was her Captain, but not only that he seemed to be a very good leader. She did as she assumed a Shinigami of the Gotei was supposed to do. She went on missions, followed orders, and exercised the hollow that plagued both the Rukongai and the World Of The Living. Over time she was able to receive her shikai by learning her Zanpakuto's name was Katarina and was promoted within her Squad. She noticed that her Zanpakuto Spirit was a bit of a controlling, power hungry, strict, and very strong woman. Because of this and the nature of her shikai over a short time and a lot of insane training by her very Zanpakuto spirit, she developed a mass amount of knowledge over different weapons, usually swords and knives. Katarina was extremely hard on Asuka, but she learned to accept it. After a while it did get tiring, so she ended up telling Katarina to fuck off and give her a break. Katarina did as told, but that next day Asuka went on a mission. When her group was attacked by a few hollow, she couldn't activate her shikai. She was forced to fight without it and luckily got her men out of there, but did not do so without consequence. Asuka was badly injured, to the point where she had to be carried back. A new member was attacked from behind and as she shunpo'd to get him out of the way a hollow claw ripped down her back, causing an almost fatal injury and a scar that she'll never forget.
After that Asuka found out that Katarina denied her the use of her shikai because Katarina felt that Asuka was being highly disrespectful, acting weak, and needed to be taught a lesson. Although that was one brutal lesson, since Asuka really was not up to the skills she needed, she immediately went back to training with Katarina practically every single day. The only thing was, you only came so far when just practicing with your own Zanpakuto Spirit, so she began practicing out of her inner world as well. She read up on weapons when she couldn't physically train with them and then physically trained when she was able to. It got to the point where she was tiring herself out. If she wasn't training, she was on missions. She never had time for herself or friends, and didn't make any time for a break. She kept doing this for two years until finally her body broke under her and she collapsed for two weeks. When she finally woke up, no one was there to see if she was alright. Katarina immediately talked to her, welcoming her back to consciousness and actually telling her she could calm down on her training. Apparently all Katarina wanted was Asuka to show a large amount of determination, and passing out the way she did some how did that. Either way, Asuka began to notice that she was always alone, had no friends, and her subordinates looked to her as a leader and nothing more. She knew nothing about anyone, and frankly she became rather lonely very quickly. After getting better, she didn't really know how to interact with many people without seeming like a leader or very strict and professional. Most people avoided casual conversations with her because of that, so she decided to just go back to training. Instead of her usual intense training through, she moved into calmer training regimens.
Natural Abilities
Unreleased Abilities: Weapons Master: She is called a weapons master because of her vast knowledge of different weapons. Asuka has only actually mastered a few, is advanced in others, and merely experienced in even more. Because of her Zanpakuto, Asuka was sort of forced to practice with a large range of weapons. She has become quite skilled in each, though most of them are something you'd see a 'ninja' work with. Her main ones are the Katana, Kunai, and Shuriken, but there are many more that she can be caught using. The others are Kusarigama, Caltrop, Makibishi, Kaginawa, and Manriki.
Zanjutsu: Asuka has mastered most of the basics of Zanjutsu and is experienced in the more advanced techniques. Zanjutsu being a certain style and set of techniques used by the Shinigami, it isn't the only style out there. Because of the manner in which she fights, she doesn't exactly need a lot of the techniques that Zanjutsu has within it. She knows what she needs to know, has a bit of skill in it, but it isn't something she uses very much and likely never will.
Kido: Kido is something Asuka is very good in, although she is no master. Kido has come quite naturally to her, even to the point where she can combine a few of the spells with her Zanpakuto's shikai/bankai. You would definitely say that Asuka is on the more advanced lines of kido than anything else. She uses it quite often in battle and her spells do pack a punch. She can preform bakudo 1-30 without incantation and Hado 1-20 without incantation. Total, she can preform up to numbers 65 within both Hado and Bakudo.
Hakuda: Definitely a novice. Yep! She knows the basics, but is not very good in hand to hand combat styles at all. She prefers blades or distance. If she were ever forced to fight without blades and in close range, and was unable to use kido, she would likely be annihilated in this aspect. Of course, she does know the basics, so there is a possibility if the person is on her level or even less skilled than she is that she will be able to defend herself and successfully attack, but otherwise, no.
Hoho: Now this is one of the areas that Asuka shines. She is extremely skilled in the entire aspect of Hoho. From Shunpo, to Senka, to Utsusemi, and to the Speed Clones that people are able to use, she is well-versed in them all. Though, some of them she preforms a bit differently than originally intended. For instance, Senka is supposed to allow the user to move behind their opponent and sever their chain of fate, but Asuka finds this technique brutal and a disgusting way of defeating your enemy, so she does not ever preform the final stab that would sever their chain. Instead, she'll attack them in whatever way seems fit to the time, excluding something as dishonorable as severing their chain.
Zanpakutō: Asuka's Zanpakuto, when actually sealed, is a normal black katana. The thing is, it's rarely sealed. The only time it is sealed is when Katarina is having a bitch fit over Asuka's performance in a recent challenge. Otherwise, it's always in an released state. It's not unintentional like other Shinigami's constantly released Zanpakuto's. Asuka's shikai takes absolutely no energy from her until she is actually summoning weapons, being that she is a weapon summoner.
Zanpakutō Release Phrase: Forge (shikai), Delineate (Bankai)
Zanpakutō Spirit
Zanpakutō Spirit Name: Katarina
Zanpakutō Spirit Appearance: Zanpakutō Spirit Personality: Strictness and determination is the easiest way to describe Katarina. Her entire mission is to make sure that Asuka gets the power, skill, and ability she needs to defeat (kill) the enemy. She's always serious and professional, but has this set of mind that when she fights she is supposed to kill her opponent. She doesn't do all of it for Asuka, but herself instead. She feels that if she is going to let Asuka use her power to fight then Asuka better be up to her level. She repeatedly challenges Asuka and makes sure she is up to the challenge. If Asuka doesn't pass her challenges, Katarina will deny her the power to access her shikai and bankai until Asuka has the skill to come back and kick the challenges ass. The challenge usually consists of Asuka fighting and defeating Asuka over and over again. Most people usually only have to fight once, maybe twice to get their Zanpakuto Spirit to trust in their power, but Katarina will challenge Asuka a few times a want if that's what she felt like doing. Asuka could could be in the middle of a battle and do something that Katarina didn't really like and suddenly Katarina will shut off Asuka's access to her shikai and bankai. Katarina isn't stupid though, she won't take away Asuka's access to her power if she's up against an opponent she couldn't defeat other wise. Death isn't exactly on Katarina's to-do list.
Zanpakutō Spirit's World: Because of Katarina's constant challenging of Asuka, her inner world changes into two things. Each represent what Katarina wants of Asuka. The first one is a regular dojo, wood floor, wood walls, and large enough for them to fight in. Katarina uses this for training in the manner of hand to hand combat and swordsmanship. She wants Asuka to prove to her that she has the right to access her power by defeating her in battle, usually the last aspect that Katarina felt Asuka was lacking in. The second is an obstacle course, similar to the ones that you see the military use to train. She uses this to trick, trap, and force Asuka to think outside of the box. This is when she wants to push Asuka to the limit and see if she is smart enough to predict the movements and tricks off her enemy. She'll even throw random obstacles into the mix just to mix things up and catch Asuka of guard.
Shikai
Shikai: Shikai Appearance: None. While released, her shikai is seemingly not there until she summons whatever weapons she needs for battle. The weapons sort of materialize in hand.
Shikai Abilities: Weapon Summoner: Asuka's shikai is always active and allows her to summon weapons at will. Her shikai takes up no energy until she has used it to summon weapons, so keeping it released all the time is not a bother at all. All of the weapons she summons are normal weapons, but each can be enhanced with kido if she feels the need. Otherwise, she uses her own personal skill with each weapon to get the job done and defend herself.
| Shuriken are little star shaped weapons made of extremely sharp metal that are used to strike a target at a distance. She summons these and uses them as throwing weapons to inflict multiple wounds on an enemy and causing a lot of damage without too much effort behind it. They vary from 2-4 inches from one side to the other and Asuka can summon up to five hundred of these, but only five to twenty at once.
Summoned: In Hand
|
| Kunai are small triangular dagger-like weapons that are often used as throwing knives. Their uses are also similar to that of Shuriken, but can often be used for close combat if needed. Each kunai's blade is five inches long, excluding the handle, which is wide enough to fit perfectly in Asuka's hand. She can summon up to five hundred of these, but only a maximum of ten to thirty at once.
Summoned: In Hand |
| Caltrop are meant to disable people through their feet. Asuka summons them on the ground so when someone steps over them, even with shoes on because they are sharp and tall enough to get through thick sneakers, they stab through a persons foot, in an attempt to slow them down or prevent them from walking or running completely. She can summon a total of fifty of these, usually ten to twenty at a time.
Summoned: In Ground
|
| Kusarigama are two sickle like weapons on each end of a chain. They can be used in both offense and defense, just depends on the situation and the person using them. Asuka's "sickle-part" are usually the same size, but the chain can vary from five to twenty five feet in length. She can summon five of these.
Summoned: In Hand OR In the air within five feet of her body.
|
| Kaginawa can also be used offensively or defensively, but usually defensively. They're used for things like grappling and climbing, though are heavy enough to be thrown towards a target and cause a bit of damage, especially if their hooks actually catch the targets body. Though the hooks are usually the same size, the rope attached to it can vary from ten to one hundred feet. She can summon three of these at the moment.
Summoned: In Hand OR In the air within five feet of her body.
|
| Manriki are pretty much Kusarigama without the sickles. They're chains with something solid on the end that is meant to weigh them down enough for them to be controlled by their user. They can be used offensively or defensively and vary in length. Their chain lengths are usually the same, which are pretty thick and extremely strong, but their length can be from five to twenty five feet in length. Asuka can summon up to five of these.
Summoned: In Hand, Or In the air within five feet of her body.
