Name: Alexandra
Nickname: Alex
Gender: Female
True Age: 15
Height: 5'2"
Weight: 109
Appearance: Personality: Alexandra can seem like a normal girl, but has one thing about her that makes her different than most. She's blind. She was born blind, so she never had the pleasure of knowing certain things in the world. She doesn't know the appearance of a dog or cat. She couldn't tell you the color of the sky or the grass. She doesn't know the beauty of a flower or the sight of busy city. With these things, she can merely guess what so many already know. And at times, this fact is able to depress her, but she has learned to accept the fact that she will likely never know what everyone else does. And anyway, because of her blindness she is proud of a gift that was given to her. She has enhanced senses, mainly in touch and hearing, that allow her to move through out the world pretty well. Though she embarrassingly bumps into things and trips over others at times, she merely laughs it off and continues on her way. Even though she has accepted her blindness as permanent, Alex still hopes and wishes to be able to see things like everyone else one day. Alexandra is a happy and outgoing girl at most times. She smiles, laughs, and is friendly towards others all the time. She does her best to make a few jokes, even sometimes joking about her blindness to make people feel more comfortable around her. She doesn't have a hard time talking to people and is never, ever shy towards people. In fact, she can be rather blunt and honest towards people, at times causing them to get a little uncomfortable and maybe even angry, depending on what was going on.
Alexandra is definitely the absolute opposite of curious and brave. She's not someone who will cower in the corner at the smallest of unfamiliar sounds and scents, but she is easily startled and gets scared of things and people a lot. She particularly has a fear of growling and hissing. She assumes that it's either a cat or dog and always feels like she is going to be attacked by them. Alex won't be one to willingly take risks or do something that rattles her nerves. Alex is also very gentle and soft-hearted in nature. People can easily hurt her feelings and make her feel inadequate or worthless without really even trying. She's extremely sensitive when it comes to what people say about her or how they treat her. If something negative happens, she'll feel guilty or like it's her that did something wrong, even if it wasn't. Because of her blindness, even though she is able to hear things that are moving, objects that are still always create a problem for her and it always makes her worry. Her hand can accidentally hit a glass and tip it over because she didn't see it and it would cause her to feel extremely embarrassed and stupid since she knows it is her own disability that caused it. Things like that always make her feel really dumb and self-conscious.
Side Notes: Alex is allergic to grass and pollen. She can break out in rashes when exposed to it. She's allergic to peanuts, her throat closes within ten minutes of eating one after making her throat itch really badly within the first five. She is able to play the piano, having used hearing and touch to memorize the feelings of the keys and the order they are in. Alex can't have ice in her drink because her sense of touch makes it too cold for her. She has a huge fear of the dentist because all she hears is the sound of something sucking in air, the drill, and then feelings things enter her mouth and stab at her teeth. She cannot stand the smell of pepper or cinnamon. She can't eat anything with a slimy or squishy texture because it makes her want to vomit. She keeps her hair short because she can't see to take care of it. She usually wears jeans shorts or pants and a random shirt because she has been told they're easiest to match with one another, since she can't see to correctly match colors and doesn't want to feel/look stupid.
Character Background: Alexandra is her first name and she has no last. She has no birthday and she has no parents. Alexandra is an orphan and has been her entire life. She was never informed of her parents and why they felt the need to give her up, but she hoped it was for good reason and not just because they didn't want her. Though, that would not have been shocking. You see, Alexandra is blind. Not every parent is going to want to deal with a blind child. It can cause a large amount of problems, challenges, and stress on someone and not everyone is strong enough to take on such a challenge. At least this is what the woman at the orphanage told her. Miss Miyazaki was her name. She had a kind voice and always smelled of violets and lily's from being out in the garden so much. This woman is the person that took care of Alexandra when no one else would. She made her feel important, loved, and normal. When other kids were picking on Alex, Miss Miyazaki was there to comfort her and lift her spirits, especially when she was young. As she got older, Alexandra learned to defend herself by telling the other kids to leave her alone. At times they would continue, but after a while they learned to stop as they also grew and matured to see how difficult it was being blind. As they all grew together, Alex began to make friends with all the other orphans. At times, new ones would arrive, while other friends were taken away and adopted into loving families. Alex hoped that one of these days a couple would come and take her away. That seemed to be every orphans dream, but hers would not ever come true. Miss Miyazaki was right time and time again. No one who came in seemed to be strong enough to take on the challenge of raising a young blind girl.
A fear years passed and Alexandra was becoming quite accustom to just living at the orphanage and helping out when and where she could. She learned all she could and did her best to memorize the lay out of the orphanage to walk around as easily as possible. Of course, there were still those kids who loved to torture her because she couldn't see and intentionally moved things around to confuse and trip her up. One time, things got so bad because of a trouble maker that showed up, that Alex curled up into a fetal position and cried in the hallway for hours because she was too scared to continue moving. That boy was immediately kicked out of the orphanage and sent to another. One day, while she was out in the garden, she heard a low growl and unknowingly turned towards a dog that was hostile towards her. She hadn't been around dogs much, if at all, so she was completely unsure of what it was. All she knew is that it sounded mad. The sound of growling was getting closer, so she backed up into a gate. She then heard a loud bark and then a huge pain in her wrist. The dog bit her and began dragging her around. She screamed out for help, but it took a while for someone to come. When they did, she heard a thud, a strange yelp, and then everything stopped. She could feel the blood running down her arm towards her hand and was scared that it was much worse than it actually was. She was happy when there was no infection and it merely needed to be wrapped up and allowed time to heal.
Everything seemed to calm down in Alex's life. People weren't picking on her anymore and no rabid dogs were sneaking into the garden to attack her, so she was happy. She and Miss Miyazaki were even planning a trip to the zoo for all of the children. She knew she wouldn't really be able to enjoy it, but wanted every one else to have some fun. It just seemed that fate was not on her side. The day before the big trip, Alex got sick and was forced to stay behind. Miss Miyazaki stayed behind with her to make sure that everything was going to be all right. When Alex was sleeping, something happened. A lit candle caught a curtain in one of the rooms and lit the entire place up. Both she and Miss Miyazaki were the only one's there a the time, but they were in completely separate rooms when it started. Alex woke to the smell of smoke and the feel of a lot of heat. She was so scared of what was happening she refused to move from her spot in the bed she had been resting in. She screamed out for help over and over again, but none seemed to come. The flames were getting closer and she could tell, but she was still to frightened to move. Now, she began coughing, unable to breathe since she inhaled so much smoke. She heard a loud bang and froze in terror. A few moments later, she felt a blanket wrap around her and then someone's arms. She was being carried really fast and was soon outside. That was when she learned in wasn't Miss Miyazaki who rescued her. Apparently Miss Miyazaki had made it to safety, but ran back inside to save her, costing herself her own life. A few days later, Alex woke up in the hospital alone and just laid there, unsure of where her life was going to go now that she had lost the one person she felt she could have called Mom...
Natural Abilities
Natural Abilities: Enhanced Senses: Because of Alex's blindness, her other senses went into overdrive to compensate for the fact that she could not see anything. The sense of taste is sometimes unbearable for her. She could practically taste every ingredient put into a dish, making her extremely picky on what she eats. Not every ingredient in a meal tastes good separated and that is pretty much what this has done to her. Her sense of smell is not as enhanced as taste, but she can still smell more than the average human being. She can't smell the same way a dog can, but is able to pick up certain scents, especially if she recognizes them. Her sense of touch is the second strongest of the senses now. Her nerves have gone into over drive, allowing her to feel things quicker than most and sometimes even before they happen. In cases like that, if an earthquake takes place, she'll feel the vibrations hit about five to ten seconds before any human in the area. Now, her sense of hearing is the strongest of all the senses and can even compensate for sight at times. Her sense of hearing is so keen, so high, that she could hear the movement of air, without a breeze or wind. This allows her to react and move accordingly. At times, she won't even seem blind because of how well she uses her hearing to move about normal people. It's when she tells people she doesn't understand what a color is or similar situations, that they realize that she actually is blind.
Can See Spirits: Yes (Okay obviously she is blind, but if a spirit is there she can communicate with them)
