Personality: Since Rukia was initially born into a lower class, she retains her modesty, even as an adopted member of the noble Kuchiki clan. She is graceful and "clean", yet chooses to talk to ordinary people. However, her cool and lone demeanor often forces her to hide her personal troubles, even from her close friends. According to Captain Ukitake, Rukia never opens up her heart and has difficulty making friends. Although she has learned over her time spent there, she is still clueless in some areas of the Human World. She is a good "actress", or liar, having used this little skill to get out of trouble with some of the school teachers and convincing the Kurosaki's to let her stay at their house. Because of her small stature, Rukia always has trouble finding clothes that fit her. This leads to her stealing the clothes of Ichigo's younger sister Yuzu when she is inhabiting a Gigai in the Human World. Rukia likes to climb into high places, likes everything rabbit-themed or which resembles a rabbit. Rukia can become sensitive when her obssession with the small furry animal is insulted. People often have difficulty understanding her drawings, which are typically rabbit-like. She does not like when someone complains about their quality. Rukia's favorite foods are cucumber, eggs, and rice dumplings.

In certain situations, Rukia can seem harsh and strict, but can bring the best out of people in this way. She doesn't just tell someone what they want to hear. She'll be honest and straight forward, but then do her best to let them know that they're not alone and she will do her best to help. Rukia is quite loyal to her friends, showing this when she betrayed the will of the Head Captain to aid in the rescure of her friend Orihime. She is strong willed and determined. She knows when to act with respect and honor and then when she can sit back and have some fun. She has a deep admiration and love for her brother Byakuya Kuchiki, though she'll likely never speak of it. Like him, she doesn't show very much emotion towards their relationship, though she has shown much more than he has. Rukia always had a sense of fighting for what she wanted and believed in, except with Byakuya. Over time, she has learned to 'argue' with him a bit and attempt to sway him in her direction. Before, she would easily give up and agree with him, but that has changed through time, though never in public and only in private. She's also got a more serious nature when dealing with superiors because of her rise and rank in power, having learned to hold her tongue, think and act more like a leader and not with her emotions. She still holds her friends high in her heart and her loyalty will always lay with them and her brother.

Character Background:

It was approximately 250 years ago when Rukia was abandoned by her older sister Hisana in the Rukongai. Forced to face hard trials at a young age, Rukia became an independent and strong young girl and easily made friends with those she met. One of these people was Renji Abarai, a red haired wild one with obnoxious tendencies. She rescued Renji and a few of his friends from a an adult that was chasing them for stealing food from his stand. From then on they were good friends and where always together. The two grew up together, fought together, and both moved to the Seireitei and enrolled in Shino Academy together. There Rukia was placed in regular classes, jealous of Renji for his immediate advancement to the higher class. Her time in Shino Academy brought her into a world she never thought possible. She was soon adopted into the Noble Kuchiki Family, finally given the chance to be a part of a family. This also allowed her to graduate from the Academy immediately and she would be placed in the 13th Division of the Gotei 13. At the time, the reason for the adoption was her appearance similarity she had with Byakuya's late wife, her sister Hisana. Upon her arrival to her Division, she was disappointed at first when she heard others talk about how nobility was given special treatment. That soon changed when she was giving a normal greeting, a normal lecture, and a normal scolding from her superior officer, Kaien Shiba. It was that evening that Rukia reported to Byakuya that her first day was peaceful, but seemingly disappointed him with the fact that she was not immediately allowed a Seated Position with the powers she had currently possessed. She was then asked to leave.

During her time in the 13th Division, she became rather fond of Kaien Shiba. He supported her and was kind, treating her like a normal person and not like someone special just because of the Family she had been adopted into. Rukia also became rather fond of Kaien's wife Miyako and even wished to be like her one day. On a horrible day, Miyako was taken from them by a hollow and Rukia, Kaien, and Captain Ukitake all made their way to it's lair. Rukia had offered to go first, but Kaien insisted he fight the hollow alone. In the fight, the hollows special ability destroyed Kaien's Zanpakuto. Rukia offered assistance, but was stopped by her Captain and told that he was not just fighting for his life, but the honor of his wife, Miyako. Although she protested, she soon gave in and reluctantly stood back and watched as Kaien fought the hollow that slayed his wife. It didn't take long for the hollow to come out on top and take over Kaien's body. 'Kaien' moved in to attack Rukia, but Ukitake protected her and sent her away. Afraid to fight, she ran. Soon, she returned to the fight to help Kaien and afraid of the guilt she would feel later if she were to just abandon him. When she returned, 'Kaien' once again attacked her, but Rukia quickly realized that it was no longer her friend and stabbed him, not wanting to see him like that. Kaien regained consciousness for a bit and thanked her for stabbing him and apologized for bringing into the battle. Kaien died in Rukia's arms. Rukia brought Kaien's body back to his family, but was to afraid to apologize, feeling an immeasurable amount of guilt for her role in Kaien's death. It was forty years later that Rukia would be sent to the World Of The Living and her life would change dramatically...



Unreleased Abilities:

Expert Swordsman: Rukia knows the basic levels of Zanjutsu, of which she seemed to have only mastered the rudimentary skills. By her own admission, she has less talent in swordsmanship than Kidō, but this has advanced over time. After much training by her former mentor, Kaien Shiba, in her earlier years, her skill drastically improved. She can hold her own in a battle, most notably defending herself from attacks from the 9th Espada, who possessed the expert swordsmanship skill of Kaien Shiba.

Kidō Expert: Rukia's greatest strength is her knowledge of Kidō. Among her known skills are those for binding, healing, and destruction. However, as she herself stated, while her Kidō skill at the Shino Academy was the highest of her class, the sheer power of her Kidō was just average when she joined the 13th Division. Through continuous training, she has greatly developed this skill, able to use Hadō #73 without incantation to considerable effect. She switched from Zanjutsu to Kidō without delay upon losing her Zanpakutō. She can use high-level Kidō in rapid succession without incantations and still retain considerable control and power and do an immense amount of damage. She has great skill in using various spells in unique combination, even using multiple spells at the same time. However, she requires incantations when using high-level spells simultaneously.

Enhanced Endurance: Rukia is notably resilient. She withstood being impaled by Aaroniero's Nejibana in conjunction with his Glotonería, and finished him off before losing consciousness. Her body is able to take a lot of damage before making it where she can no longer fight.

Enhanced Strength: Despite her size, she is powerful enough to defeat a superior opponent. Even without the aid of her Zanpakutō, she is still a considerable opponent. While Ritz is controlling her, she picks up Orihime and throws her in the air, despite her size.

Hakuda Combatant: While in a Gigai, she fought enemies with her hands and feet (kicking, punching, etc.). She is capable of hand-to-hand combat while in her Shinigami state, possessing augmented strength.

Keen Intellect: Rukia has repeatedly shown herself to be very intelligent. She compensated against the power of the 9th Espada with combination attacks. During her forced stay in the living world after losing her powers, Rukia proved herself very useful in assisting Ichigo with his new Shinigami duties. Rukia is very knowledgeable, as shown from her knowledge of Soul Society's history.

High Spiritual Power: Being a lieutenant of the Gotei 13, Rukia boasts a high level of spiritual energy and can exerting large amounts of reiatsu when needed.

Shunpo Expert: Renji says Rukia is helpful and effective because of her high speed. During her battle against the Adjuchas of the Menos Forest, she skillfully and repeatedly dodged multiple attacks from several enemies using the technique.

Zanpakutō:  In its sealed form, Sode no Shirayuki is a normal katana. It has a rectangular tsuba with a vaguely flame-like pattern on the long sides and a curved line on the short sides, inward-curved corners with curved slits above and below the blade, and a series of curved lines embossed on either side of the blade. It has a reddish-brown hilt.

Zanpakutō Spirit Name: Sode no Shirayuki (袖白雪, Sleeved White Snow)
Zanpakutō Spirit Appearance:
Zanpakutō Spirit Personality: Her manner of speaking is soft and peaceful, but personality-wise, she seems cold and somewhat apathetic. When in a comfortable environment, Shirayuki can be rather kind and friendly, with a noticeably polite demeanor.
Zanpakutō Spirit's World: Sode No Shirayuki's world is a flat land of ice and snow. Beneath your feet is a thick layer of snow that covers a floor of pure ice. The clouds in this world are so low  they touch the ground, making it seem foggy when walking through. Outside of the clouds it is sunny and bright, everything seeming clean and clear.


Shikai: Its Shikai command is "Dance" (舞え, mae). Rukia holds her Zanpakutō out in front of her and turns it in a circle counter-clockwise. While she is turning it, the blade, hilt, and tsuba turn completely white. The tsuba becomes a hollow snowflake-like circle, and a white ribbon forms from the pommel. Sode no Shirayuki is regarded as one of the most beautiful Zanpakutō in Soul Society. The transformation is accompanied by a rush of cold air in all directions. Sode no Shirayuki is an ice-type Zanpakutō. Sode no Shirayuki possesses multiple techniques, labeled as "dances" by Rukia. Besides ice techniques, Sode no Shirayuki's general ability is freezing. Sode no Shirayuki can freeze a target from a distance, or, used in a different manner, create a path or platform of ice in midair.

Some no mai, Tsukishiro (初の舞・月白, First Dance, White Moon): Rukia calls out the name of the dance while holding her Zanpakutō upside down. The blade glows, and she makes a slashing motion when her target is in position. When she does this, she draws a circle with the tip of Sode no Shirayuki. The space within that circle and anything inside freezes. The circle not only freezes the ground, but everything within the circle's influence, including anything above it in the air, creating an extending pillar of light which freezes all within the circle. Shortly after being frozen, the victim shatters along with the ice. The ice pillar will not shatter if the victim is not caught within it.

Tsugi no mai, Hakuren (次の舞・白漣, Next Dance, White Ripple): Rukia, calling out the name of the dance, punctures the ground once, creating a large ice circle, similar to the first dance. She punctures the ground in front of her four times in a semi circle. As ice particles begin to flow up from the punctures she made in the ground, she takes a battle stance. The particles, building up at the tip of Sode no Shirayuki, are released as a large, powerful avalanche of cold air. It flash freezes whatever it comes into contact with, encasing it in ice.

San no mai, Shirafune (参の舞・白刀, Third Dance, White Sword): Rukia calls out the name of the dance, which allows her to gather moisture in the air to the tip of Sode no Shirayuki, creating a blade of ice. This makes it possible to augment the length of the blade. After piercing its target, it continues to freeze any surrounding objects and the immediate area.

Juhaku (樹白, White Tree): Rukia stabs the ground, which creates a trail of ice in the direction of her intended target. The ice freezes the target from the base up, in a continuing freezing process, as it transforms the target into ice.

Ice-Rope Connection: If Rukia can't reach her sword, she can create an ice extension to connect her hand to the sword hilt, which allows her to use Sode no Shirayuki's Shikai abilities at a distance.

"But brother! I do not understand what would be so wrong with me being in your Squad!" Rukia spoke out from the heart, speaking desperately in her failing attempt to change Byakuya's mind, "Being a Kuchiki, having the strength of the Lieutenant, Captain Ukitake's retiring... Why are these not good reasons to allow the transf-..." It was that single look that stopped her from continuing to argue with him. He did not need to say anything. She knew what it meant. He was not going to change his mind about it. Finally Rukia gave up on getting the transfer to his Squad. "Right... I understand." a defeated Rukia said while lowering her gaze to the wooden floor below. She was on her knees in the quarters of her brother, Byakuya Kuchiki, in the bowing position she was commonly in when in his presence. For the last twenty minutes, she had been arguing with him, attempting to sway his decision about her position within the Gotei 13. She wished to join his squad, but Byakuya refused to allow it. Upon what she assumed was Captain Ukitake retiring due to his illness, Yoruichi Shihouin was the one taking over the Squad. Rukia had no problem with Captain Shihouin, but she still wanted nothing more than to join the Squad that the one she admired most was leading. Apparently that was not going to be the case. With all of her asking, begging, wondering why, his mind was not changed and she would still be the Lieutenant of Squad Thirteen.

Rukia took a deep breath and slowly let it out, as if coming to an acceptance of what they were fighting about. Of course, not many could really call this an argument. That would suggest that both sides stood a chance of proving their points and maybe winning and swaying the others mind. This was different. A certain Captain Kuchiki was quite set in his ways and gave no hint of changing his mind. Rukia would not be allowed to join Squad Six. "I apologize, brother. For now... I will not argue with you any longer about the subject." Rukia said and lifted her body into a normal sitting position. She stood up and stepped out of the room, slowly closing the sliding door behind her. "Damn it..." she mumbled under her breath and turned away, deciding to walk off and continue her day. Though, Rukia wasn't one to give up on something she wanted that easily. She would likely confront him on the subject again, maybe being able to convince him that her joining his Squad would be beneficial to the Squad, herself, and to him. His stubbornness was frustrating, but she did know where he was coming from. He did always do his best to keep her from danger, even if she felt that she could handle herself. "I will be in Squad Six one of these days..." Rukia narrowed her eyes in determination as she left the area.
