Basics
Name: Suikesshō, Unmei (水結晶 運命)
True Age: 17
Gender: Female
Personality: Umnei hates her name. She finds it an embarrassing name. Anything to embarrass her she hates. Who would
want to have a name meaning "fate?" She gets jokes on it all the time on her name, her appearance, everything. She knows they're all wrong... but one thing Mei has always had bad about her is social anxiety. She
hates being in front of people. Not because she's afraid of people, she's afraid of what she might say. She's afraid of what people will think if she messes up. Mei has watched what happens when political figures say one thing wrong, and so she knows how bad it can be.
And it's because of this fear that Mei decided to take refuge in a place where no one can fully see her: the internet. She has a few blogs, but she mainly takes to strategy games played online. She sees it as a way to outsmart people she knows she couldn't beat in a chess match. She feels as if that's the only way she can win. But winning isn't everything to her. Mei wants to find someone she cares about. She wants to find someone who cares about her. She wants someone she can write "JSFAKDJFKASDJFKWIR" about all day long.
However, she feels as if she can't find that person. Mei is rather self-concious about her body, especially her weight. While not overweight at all, she has a bit of fat around her waist. This creates the tiniest overlap of her jeans, but she still feels as if she's an elephant. However, she's too socially awkward to go to a gym, she doesn't have the room for exercise equipment, and her going outside and jogging? Hahahaha. She's constantly torn between "I hate my mistakes" and "I hate myself." She knows what it'd take to fix one, but the other gets in the way. And this choice stresses her out almost too much. She gets stomach pains, nausea, a bit of acne, and just overall discomfort.
But what else causes this stress? It isn't just "I hate myself" and "I hate my mistakes." No, it is far more complex than that. Honestly? Unmei blames herself for everything. She bumps into someone in the hall? She apologizes. She talks with someone and they say they're down? She apologizes. She doesn't do anything necessarily wrong? Mei apologizes. She knows people need
someone to blame, so why not her? Why not the person who is already being burdened? She feels that she can be the face of a punching bag in person, but she doesn't want to be. She'd rather not be, but she feels she
has to be. She feels that there's no other purpose for her in face-to-face conversations than being the "punching bag." The phrase "don't shoot the messenger" does not apply to this girl. No, she'd rather be shot than cause problems for other people in the end...
But Mei also has one silver lining. One thing everyone seems to like about her. One tiny thing that most people take for granted: her goddamned devotion. She needs to do a research paper? She researches every possible link. Her sources? She does a detailed background check on their extended family. She's a perfectionist, which is why she's an emotional rollercoaster time bomb. It's because of her perfectionist attitude that she feels that everything she does is sub-par, she
has to be right. She
has to not make mistakes. She has people relying on her, so she can't let them down... but she feels she will let them down. And that is why she shies away from people. If there's no one relying on her, there's no one to let down. She feels as if she is a natural-born loser. She wants to "win," but being able to win and wanting to win are two very different things in her mind.
General Appearance
Appearance: What
does Hephaestus's resident "net addict" look like? If you see her, you won't pay much attention to her until you realize she's not like the rest. She stands at five-foot-three, meaning she is not too tall. She's very nearsighted, so she wears thick-rimmed black glasses. Mei also doesn't wear a bra unless it's
absolutely necessary. This allows her white satchel strap to dig in between her ample 82cm bust. She hair brown hair that is
never styled. The only thing she does to it in terms of styling is adding a tiny scarlet bow in there above her left eye. She does get it cut to the minimum length. Her eyebrows are not waxed, they're actually a little bushy. Her eyes are a dull, yet bright hazel. She's always seen with an expression of "are we done yet?" In terms of clothing outside of school, she has two choices: home and outside. Home clothing is nothing special at all. She sometimes doesn't wear anything aside from her panties (which she does not divulge what color they are). But most of the time, you'll catch her in an oversized shirt and some loose-fitting pajama pants. In terms of "outside" clothing, she wears clothing she can just throw on and off. A cheap, yet warm black jacket (which she only buttons the top button on) is the outermost layer, with a yellow and orange-trimmed camisole underneath that jacket. She wears blue jeans with a brown belt as pants, and she has plain white athletic shoes.

Character Background:
Unmei was always named Unmei. Her mother was reportedly infertile according to all doctors. Her mother and father tried, tried, and tried to conceive. Nothing they did worked. In a last-ditch effort, her parents went to a monk in eastern China. Her mother spent three weeks there, undergoing spiritual rituals. After the three weeks, she waited two more weeks as per the monk's orders. Unmei's parents then tried again-it worked this time. They were overflowing with joy. Over the next nine months, the prepared for Unmei to be born. When Unmei was born, her mother set eyes on her once. The joy was too much. The stress of birth plus the stress of seeing the impossible put her heart over the edge... and so, Unmei's mother passed.
There is a shrine dedicated to Unmei's mother in their house. From the earliest she can remember, Unmei always saw her father on his knees before the shrine, weeping. Her father sued the hospital and got far too much money. They lived on that money because Unmei's father was fired from his job. She was not verbally or physically abused. No, she was passive-aggressively emotionally abused. Her father muttered that "it was her fate to live without a child..." He blamed himself, but also Unmei. He remarried when Unmei was eight, as their money had run out.
Upon enrolling into high school, nothing Unmei did would make her happy. Her father's passive-aggressiveness only got worse, and his stress peaked when she was 15. He died of a heart attack much like her mother. This was the last blood relative she had, and it just sent her over the edge. She felt it was her fault. She felt as if her mother and father would still be happy had it not been for her being born... and so, Unmei delved into a false reality. She went there to make sure that there was nothing that could bother her...
