"I'm bad luck. Good was never an option there!"
Basics
Name: Krito Asmeudos
Alias: Jinx
True Age: Around 200
Gender: Male
Personality: What happens when you give 'bad powers' to 'good people'? Rarely a good thing. Krito is a prime example of how that could go wrong. He is, by all accounts, a villain. He's done his fair share of despicable acts, and abuses his power freely. Often times, he feels weak or uncomfortable just existing, and will let his unexplainable feelings of lacking self-worth out by committing yet more evil acts.
In a way, Krito enjoys being good at what he does, though. Crime and villainy are quite easy for someone like him - he has a conscience, but also knows how to ignore it when need be. If he needs to kill someone, then it happens - and even if he can act like a real sadist and psychopath, it's more of a self-inflicted 'killswitch' that he flips, and less of a natural drive. In other words, he tries to make people see him as evil, so that he can act evil without feeling bad about it, and is rather selfish about it.
He's ambitious, too. And not in an entirely good way. He wants to BE someone, and if he has to blow up a city to do it, fine! As long as people talk about him, notice him, and remember him, he'll be happy about it. At least he always leaves an impression with the people he meets - which is rarely positive, because of how much of an attention whore and asshole he can be.
Every so often, though, he'll show compassion, but never when his powers would be required to do so. You drop your wallet, and he might just give it to you instead of taking out the money and throwing the rest into the trash. Or he might stop a child from running right onto a heavily used road. He doesn't understand why he does so himself, but at times, he simply feels like doing so, all while still claiming to be a 'badass villain' and not some 'pansy hero'.
Oddly enough, while he's not opposed to conflict itself, he hates war. For some reason, he finds the concept of big groups of people fighting for some state or ideal appalling and wrong.
He has a few excuses for his behavior, though. For one, Krito suffers from heavy PTSD inflicted by the horrors of war and his own actions, and certain triggers - such as bloodlust in his vicinity, the firing of automatic rifles, or loud explosions - trigger harsh flashbacks to his time as a killer, giving him shock-like feelings, anxiety, irrationality (more than usual) and incredible anger issues.
Second, Krito fears his own healing powers. He thinks that the reason why he can't remember much of anything from between the war and now is because of that healing factor - it is slowly but steadily rewriting his memory back to the point it was at during the end of the war. However, getting rid of such a strong healing factor is not exactly easy.
There are a few people in Academy City nowadays that Krito would call friends... And even one that he has stronger feelings of affection for. He'd never admit it, but these feelings are genuine, and not simply a way to blend in while secretly being 'Jinx'. With these friends, though, comes a larger amount of stress able to induce his PTSD-driven flashbacks... And a greater desire to be remembered.
General Appearance
Appearance: Appearance Age: Late Teens
Natural Abilities
Natural Abilities: Healing Factor - Ever since a certain event in his past, Krito has been both blessed and cursed with this. It allows his body to regenerate from nearly any type of damage apart from the brain or heart, but also means that he feels every pain in quadruple of it's original factor, and painkillers do not work on him. It also stops his body from aging by constantly regenerating his cells.
Qi Abilities (Current/Temporary)
Type: External
Appearance change: His eyes glow violet whenever he uses his powers directly.
Abilities: Krito's power is the power of 'bad luck', called the 'Jinx'.
The concept is rather simple. By utilizing this power, Krito uses the Qi around him to 'reverse all fortune into the worst possible'. Once used, the power takes on the form of violet energy emitted from either his hands, eyes or even entire body. This cannot affect people directly, no matter their race - but it can affect every single world.
The effect varies from target to target. For example, when used on a car, Krito could vary the bad luck into either destroying the breaks or just blow the car up entirely by rupturing the fuel tank and creating sparks. If he curses the ground, it would break apart, and so on - the energy can also pass through one solid object to affect the one behind it. The power is versatile and actually quite potent at what it does - and in addition, requires virtually no energy to use again and again.
Krito also has a natural affinity for mysticism, and could potentially learn sorcery and witchcraft, but has yet to do so actively. This affinity also comes from this power slightly affecting him, as being a 'witch' is naturally seen as something that has roots in bad luck and curses.
Qi Abilities (True)
- Spoiler:
Type: Internal
Name: The One who Shines in the Darkness
Appearance Change: Golden-violet eyes, golden and violet aura around him
Abilities:
- Protective Charm: This power is only active before the One awakens. While in the unawakened state, the power influences chance itself around the person, giving them luck-based External-Type powers. These powers are lost permanently once the power of the Shining One awakens, and can never be recovered, together with all other powers and abilities that may have been earned by the usage of them prior. the Shining power doesn't awaken all at once usually, but slowly breaks through, weakening other powers while slowly giving the Shining One the true abilities of his Qi.
- Moon Power DNA: The Qi rewrites the DNA of the user, making them 'evolved' beyond normal humans. This grants a greatly enhanced lifespan (although not eternal life), the ability to pass on the abilities of the One to offspring, a slightly enhanced healing rate, superhuman senses - to the level where one's sense of touch grants near precognitive abilities to incoming danger, and the ability to recover lost internal Qi while bathed in moonlight, no matter which world the moon belongs to, be it a material or spiritual world and/or planet. Side-effects include inability to sleep at night when the moon is bright outside, even with closed blinds, inability to turn super-senses off when in the presence of foul smells, and slightly heightened body temperature when compared to a normal human. Also includes immunity to most poisons and sicknesses of normal humans, while granting partial resistance towards invading energy that messes with the body.
- Titan's Strength: Even when in daylight, the Shining One will always notice enhanced physical strength above human limits, enough to bend steel and smash through concrete. The appendages of the Shining One will harden through the usage of Qi to prevent self-injury while using the titanic strength.
- Ludicrous Speed: Like a wolf in full sprint and beyond, the Shining One becomes a blur to the eyes of normal humans, giving him speed comparable to a trained supernatural fighter by using internal Qi. When using full force super-speed, the Shining One can easily break the sound barrier and beyond, turning into a golden streak of light. Using internal Qi this way, he can fly through the air freely.
- Moon Prism Blade: At any point, the Shining One can summon the handle of a sword into his hands by shouting "Moon Prism Power". It is large enough to suggest that any blade attached would require two hands to properly use it, although it is mostly held in one hand by the Shining One. It has no visible blade, while still being very ornate, crafted from black metal with gold decorations and a golden cross-guard. However, when held by the Shining One in daylight or when no moonlight can reach him, the blade is simply invisible - the Qi of the wielder forms a blade as strong as tempered steel, but without any weight towards the user. While not visible, the blade length is easily as long as 1.90 meters, making it an ultra-great-sword with impressive blade width. The blade is also as sharp as a razor blade naturally. While the enemy can't see it, the wielder 'feels' the true length of the weapon with their enhanced senses and connection to it, allowing for the massive blade to be wielded in combat regardless of the invisibility and enormous length. When within moonlight, the blade becomes visible as a glowing, silvery object of light. While this eliminates the helpful invisibility, in exchange, the blade becomes able to discharge energy in the form of flying blades when swung, up to three per post, each as powerful as the swing that created it. Also, the blade doubles in hardness and weight, although it still doesn't affect the wielder with said weight. Finally, the blade needs to be in this stage to allow the 'opening of the gate'.
- Waning Moon Wave: During a waning moon, no matter if it is daytime or nighttime, this power can be activated. The closer it is to a new moon without actually being a new moon, the stronger this power gets. With a slash, Krito sends out a wave of glittering silver energy which has the ability to freeze all living and soul-creatures caught in the blast, without damaging objects. The attack spreads like a cone from the path of the swung blade. The power is comparable to a high level Bakudo if it manages to hit someone to freeze their movement, and can hold even strong opponents for a full round in place and leave them possibly helpless.
- New Moon Festival: The weakest of the moon attacks, but also costs barely any Qi. Can only be used on nights without moons, or in worlds without a moon, at any time. This ability creates a small shockwave from the blade which kicks up a lot of silvery dust made up of Qi to blind and disorient someone directly inside of it.
- Waxing Moon Streak: A single swing with the sword sends out an energy wave that only functions during a Waxing Moon, daytime or nighttime, but is more powerful when it is nighttime with the moon clearly visible. An extra strong flying cutter is send out by this move, strong enough to turn all those hit by it to sand if it manages to kill them.
- Full Moon Beam: Strongest attack of the Shining One, and can only be used when within the light of the full moon. The blade glows completely golden, and can fire a large number (100-200) blasts of high damage energy with each swing as small, golden orbs. Alternatively, the energy is kept within the sword, and a single strike gets enhanced with the full power of the Full Moon Beam, turning it into the Full Moon Beam Sabre Slash, which has enough power to cleave a skyscraper in half. The reach of the attack is also gigantic, enough to cut through an entire small neighborhood.
Past & Roleplay Sample
Character Background: Krito was no normal human since birth. Somewhere in his family line, there had been a being with spiritual power - and that inheritance gave him power far beyond what a human should be able to have. He was born not only able to see spirits, but blessed by 'Good Luck', no matter what he did.
So obviously, while growing up, Krito didn't know pain. His family was happy and rich, school came easy to him once it was time for that, and even evil spirits left him alone. All in all, Krito never had a single hardship in his life, and was set on a perfect, lucky life...
That was, until the Third World War started.
When people were drafted into far simply for having spiritual powers, Krito tried to hide his own the best he could. But eventually, his cover was blown - by someone he had trusted, since it'd be impossible for it to happen accidentally to himself. Forcefully removed from his peaceful and nice life, he was then subjected to multiple research programs to unveil the secrets of his ability - and he was forced to lean how to fight, and how to kill.
Since his powers had no direct combat appliance, he was instead used as an assassin - using his luck, he was dropped right into giant battle zones where he was then forced to kill leaders and political enemies and get out alive, all on his own. Unknown to his superiors, though, these acts stressed his Qi powers greatly, and eventually made him able to control how much 'luck' he had in every given situation... And he used that to finally escape his fate.
Back in the research facility, a new super-soldier serum was to be tested, to grant incredible regenerative powers that one of the spiritual soldiers possessed to everyone. Krito used his good luck to sneak into the project as a test subject, and using the 'best possible luck' made sure that the serum worked on him. By the time a scientist realized who it was that they were testing the serum on, it was already too late - as noticing it also meant the end of any 'good luck'.
The serum worked, but not only in ways Krito intended. He became nearly impervious to long-term damage, but for the first time, he felt real, actual pain in his body - and his good luck was drained out of him, leaving him a blank, empty human. His Qi changed accordingly, now instead of granting HIM luck, it gave the world around him misfortune - Krito became a living, breathing 'Jinx', his codename once he was thrown into a cell by the scientists who had conducted the experiment. What they didn't consider was the will Krito had to finally escape.
As he now had an ability able to affect the world, he used his bad luck to break out of the cell they were holding him in, before causing a facility-wide blackout and breakdown of any automated and normal defenses, and fleeing the compound. Calling himself 'Jinx', he still laments the lost life from before the war and all the killing.
However, that wasn't the entire story just yet. Recently, Krito was sighted again for the first time in years within Academy City and Karakura Town, but apparently either lacks memories of the war, or tries to forget them. All he seems to know is his name and his power, but he doesn't say why he either can't or doesn't want to remember the war - the time between the war and the now is a great blank for everyone that tries to figure out just who Krito Asmeudos really is.
But for him, that question has a clear and simple answer. He's the super-villain Jinx, and the world will fear and remember him!
