Basics
Name: Kaede "Sumika" Saika
Gender: Female
True Age: 976
Appearance Age: 18
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 130
Appearance: On Kaede's back are three scar foot long scars made by the claw of a hollow the day she received her Zanpakutō.
Personality: Kaede is funny in her own way. Her demeanor always makes her seem calm, proper, and quiet. This actually is how she is, except her mind is a little circus. She thinks up random things that she won't dare say out loud. She'll never tell a joke or speak in that type of manner because she is unsure of how people will react. At times, she'sll even giggle randomly and not even tell people why she did it. Her mind just runs wild at times. Even with such, she is not shy and isn't scared to *do* what she wants. If she sees something that she wants to touch, she will touch it. If she sees something that she wants to pull, she will pull it. Kaede normally is soft spoken and has a slightly higher-pitched voice. She isn't quiet. She just doesn't have one of those dominating voices that can carry down a street. Kaede does more through action than she does through speaking anyways. Kaede also has a few quirks about her that people may find a little interesting and annoying, depending on what end of the situation they are at. For one, she can get a little obsessively protective over someone. If she discovers that she cares about you enough, she'll watch over you as much as she can. At times, she'll even sit on a wall, tree, or building and watch a person from a distance. If she doesn't trust, or know, someone that you're around, she'll intentionally keep herself close enough to make sure that person won't do anything. She's also the type of person to jump in front of a bullet to save someone that she cares for from being hurt. If someone has done something for her, she will always do something to pay them back. The second quirk of Kaede's is the fact that she can be a little vindictive. If someone hurts someone she cares about, or herself, she has the habit of holding a grudge until she has gotten her revenge. This can even happen on something little. For example, if someone she knows bumps into her and doesn't say they're sorry, she might end up pushing them down the stairs if they refuse to do so. She has no idea where this side of her comes from, but she is aware of it and does attempt to control it. Just don't piss her off...On the other hand, Kaede keeps her hair long because she doesn't want anyone to see the scar on her back. Kaede has an issue with the size of her chest. She doesn't get upset about it. Instead she gives the "dull" look to anyone who has a larger one. It's a jealousy thing...
Character Background: Kaede remembers nothing before she came to the Soul Society. She sort of just appeared there without any knowledge of the place. The only thing that left her even the slightest of clues was a small crumbled up piece of paper she woke up with held tightly in her hand. When she opened it, it was a picture. It was a picture of her and another girl that definitely looked a lot like her. After a while of just staring at it, she flipped it over and saw a message "My Sister And Best Friend". It wasn't hard to figure out that the girl in the picture was either the one who wrote the message or the one who she wrote it too. Kaede did her best to flatten the picture as much as she could and immediately began her search. She moved through the Rukongai, searching everywhere she could find for her sister. One day, she entered a little tavern type place and asked the owner about it. He explained to her that with what information she had just given him, her sister was likely in the world of the living and that the only people who can go there are the Shinigami. This confused Kaede. "The world of the living? So... where are we?" she thought to herself and soon had that explained as well. She was dead, her sister was alive. She left the world of the living somehow, likely bu something called a Konso. It was also a technique that the Shinigami used. Kaede was forced to take in a lot rather quickly. So much time had passed, five years actually, and she was just now realizing that she was actually dead? How dense can you get? Kaede pushed the thought off and made her way to the place that she was told to go to find the Shinigami, The Seireitei. Upon her arrival at the Seireitei, Kaede was met with rude members of the guard. They insulted her, telling her that someone with such a small amount of spiritual pressure wouldn't be able to make it in side the doors, let alone to the Head Captain's place. Angry with that, she stepped closer and asked to pass again. They laughed and released their spiritual pressure, causing her to feel faint and pass out right in front of them.
Kaede woke up a few hours later in a hut not far from where she had fallen. A few people stood around her, mostly children. They explained to her about the guards behavior and how that their power was actually nothing compared to most. "They were the weaklings of the bunch? Great. What does that make me?" was her question to that. Apparently that made her new to the game, at least that is what it was explained like. Those guys had been there for a while and were still that weak. They enjoyed picking on people who were weaker than them because that's how they felt around their superiors and most of the Gotei. "Interesting...". From what moment on, Kaede made it her own mission to become a Shinigami just so she could get to her sister. She found out that the only way their spiritual pressure would effect you in that manner is if you had some yourself. So obviously it was possible. It just took practice and some faith. So she began practicing. Years passed and she was beginning to give up. She had improved a bit, but not even enough to stand up to the guards that pushed her away before. How was she going to do this if she couldn't even stand up to them? That's when things changed. The village she was staying at was under attack by a few hollow and the Shinigami were nowhere to be found. A child she had been living in the same hut with was being chased. She ran to help. As it went to attack, Kaede dove in and grabbed the child. She used the great ol' 'tuck n roll' and got out of the way in time. The child ran. She was going to as well, but the next attack came too quickly. Kaede panicked and put grabbed the first thing that was next to her. It was just a broom stick. The hollow hit it and knocked her back. As she stumbled back, it attacked again. It's claw sliced through her clothes and down her back. Kaede fell. The hollow moved to attack her, but was hit by a rock and distracted by that same little girl she had just saved.
"Leave her alone!" Kaede heard the child yell and then saw her throw another rock. Kaede laid there on her stomach, her eyes wide and empty of any life. She watched in horror as she felt seh could do nothing for the girl as the hollow turned it's attention to her. "Where are the Shinigami!? Where are they!? Are they going to leave us to die?!" a tear fell down Kaede's lifeless looking eyes as the child was attacked. The child fell back and was able to dodge the first claw, but another was coming. "Help me!" the child screamed, not for Kaede, but for just help in general. The claw came and the child curled up in fear, just enough to dodge the second attack. "Help her! Help her!!! HELP HER!" Kaede screamed in her own mind as another claw was about to strike at the child, and this one would not miss. Suddenly something unlocked inside of Kaede and she felt her spiritual pressure rising rapidly. A sword, purple in color and decorated beautifully, practically materialized in front of her. It all happened so fast that Kaede was unable to tell what fully went on. In an instant, she grabbed that sword, unsheathed it, and charged at the hollow. She sliced down from it's back all the way up to it's head and killed it, all seemingly within a single second, maybe less. Kaede's spiritual pressure was continuing to leak from her body, catching the attention of a couple more hollow that were in the area. The last of the hollow attacked her and were immediately struck down. After that, things calmed down rather quickly. She no longer felt the desperate need to protect anyone and her spiritual pressure was calming. Of course, this happened right when the Shinigami arrived just in time to witness everything that she had done. And then... Kaede fainted. The Shinigami picked her up and took her to the Seireitei, promising the people of the village that they would do their best to keep her alive and have Squad Four take care of her healing process. The wound on her back that the claw made was very deep and she needed to be tended to.
Kaede woke up two weeks later in the Squad Four Infirmary. She was fully healed, except the fact that it did end up leaving a scar. She was handed a sword and congratulated on becoming a Shinigami. Confused and unsure of what actually happened two weeks ago, she had it explained by a couple of the Squad Four members. Apparently she had saved the lives of many after receiving her Zanpakutō. They brought her here to heal and she's been out for a long while. They told her that her spiritual pressure could match that of a fifth seat if she wished to join the Gotei, but she likely wouldn't be accepted as such a high position, yet. "Yet?" she thought. After asking, she was told about Shino Academy and how they could teach her to control, focus, advance, and use her powers like she had before. "All I did was slice through a few hollow..." she mentioned. The ironic and hilarious reply that the people gave was, "That's all that we do too." Kaede thought that the Shinigami and Gotei were supposed to do a bit more than that, but apprently not. It was explained to her though, that the focus of those within the Gotei was to "Konso" spirits in the World of the Living so they could cross over, and to excercise hollow by slicing through their masks so they too can return to the Soul Cycle. After a bit of thinking, really only ten seconds, Kaede decided to join in the Academy. She wasn't the best there either. She was insulted and picked on for being from the Rukongai and that made her lose her focus. She ended up failing a lot at Kidō, couldn't get down Hoho, Hakuda was not something she enjoyed, and Zanjutsu was probably her best suit. It also didn't help that the others would intentionally do things to harass and make things harder on her. Either way, she spent a very, very, very long time in the Academy, just unable to get the hang of it.
Two hundred years passed. Yes. Two hundred years. She was just *that* determined to find her sister. That fact was what kept her going. Of course, having died so young, she was unsure of how long people could live in the World Of The Living. Here it seemed to be forever. Captain Yamamoto seemed to live forever anyway, and she even felt like she wasn't aging too much, so she figured it must be the same in the World Of The Living. Once she finally graduated, she was giving the seventh seat in Squad Six. She did not understand why, but apparently she was told that she would fit in there quite well. She soon found out that reason. It was because everyone there was quiet, serious, and never played around. In other words, boring. Kaede was slightly offended by such, but whatever. Apparently their job was to represent the Gotei, so each of them held themselves high and acted proper and with honor. That was definitely something that Kaede could get used to rather quickly, and she did. There were a few missions here and there within the Rukongai, but she was never given one that would allow her to move into the World Of The Living. One day, she gathered up the courage to ask for such a mission and her Captain happily handed her one. That mission was a complete success and she showed her worth quite quickly, having been the one to keep even her superior officer alive when he was concentrating on impressing one of the girls in the Squad. Unfortunately, she immediately had to leave after that. Years seemed to fly by as she was given mission after mission. She ended up having a 85% success rate as well. Finally, when the new millennium came, Kaede was told to keep guard over a certain town. One Shinigami per fifty thousand humans was the number given to her. After a week of searching, protecting her town, and keeping people alive, she finally found the record she needed. Her sister was... dead and had been for years, a quite a long time. Her mission was soon done and she returned to the Seireitei. After that... the search for her sister ceased and she moved on with her life...
Natural Abilities
Natural Abilities: Fantastic Reflexes and Very Quick Thinking: These two go together at times and at other times do not. For instance, Kaede's reflexes are extremely fast, but usually come into play when something is about to happen and her mind can't process it quickly enough to tell her "oh you should do this now". Instead, her body reacts to what it sees and feels and can save her life a lot of the time. As an example, when in battle, if someone charges her out of no where and she doesn't have time to think about what to do, her body will react in a manner that allows her to block or dodge correctly. Now, when it comes to thinking really fast, people don't always have the luxury of thinking and calculating the right course of action. Luckily, Kaede is able to gather information pretty fast and figure out what would be the correct way of going about things. Sometimes her reflexes and mind end up working together in this aspect and she is able to pull off feats that not many people would expect of her.
Strength And Durability: In both of these aspects, Kaede really is just above average. She can't punch her fist through a brick wall, or lift anything really heavy. If someone of high strength brings their blade down on her, it's best for her to dodge, not block, because she will likely be struck down if she relies on her strength. When she is hit, she doesn't exactly have a tough enough body to withstand the blade of another like some Shinigami do. She's cut easily, but she is able to take it a lot more than a lot of people. Now bruising isn't something that happens to her easily. Blunt damage from punches and kicks are something she can handle being hit with and not have to worry about too much, but she can definitely still be damaged by it.
Speed and Flexibility: In this aspect, Kaede was blessed. The petite build of her body and the lack of a lot of thick muscle allows her to move a lot faster and take advantage of slower opponents. Because of this, she can gets strikes off very quickly and dodge attacks easily. With how flexible she is as well, her body is able to contort in ways that not many people would think is possible. She doesn't have very much muscle in the way of her bone movement and her ligaments are stretched enough through training that she can never be called stiff, even if she walks around in that manner. The moment she begins fighting, things like that change very quickly.
Accelerated Healing Rate: Kaede's body reacts to the healing power of her Zanpakutō spirit and her spiritual pressure. This ability takes absolutely no energy from her, which is why it is in this section. Kaede's body heals at a marvelous rate. When her body heals, it takes only one quarter of the time that a normal person would take. So if it took someone a month to heal, it would take her a week. If someone took a year, it would take her three months and so on. Of course, she has no natural regenerative ability at this moment, so lost limbs and busted organs aren't going to come back.
Unreleased Abilities:Zanjutsu: For battle, this is probably her most used way of fighting. It definitely is her stronger suit and she is quite advanced in the different ways of using a sword, including duel wielding. Her attacks are precise and accurate. She takes advantage of her being quite agile to move faster than she normally would. Her good reflexes and high amount of knowledge on the subject allow her to react very quickly and without thinking, sometimes making her seem as if she predicted the movements of her opponent.
Hakuda: Kaede would much rather move to long range combat if she is unable to use her sword to fight. Exchanging blows with her opponent with fists, legs, and feet is not her favorite way of defending herself. This does not mean she doesn't have any knowledge or experience of how to fight in this manner because she does. She's merely adept in the style and prefers other methods of fighting.
Hoho: Kaede is definitely advanced in this aspect. There are a hell of a lot of people she has to keep up with, so this was one thing she concentrated on and practice a ridiculous amount of time to get good at. Even though her other skills are not up to par with them, in Hoho, she can likely keep up with some of the Lieutenants in this aspect of her skill. She can do a good thirty to forty Shunpo without getting tired and has even successfully used Utsusemi multiple times to get out of trouble.
Kidō: If she were unable to use her sword for battle, this is what she would switch out to. She has a rather large knowledge of Kidō now, although she struggled with it at the beginning. It still is not her strongest suit and she knows more book smarts about it than she does actual experience preforming it. She does know how to successfully use numbers 1-20 of both Bakudo and Hado without the use of an incantation, and she can successfully use 20-60 with incantation, though 50-60 are harder for her to pull off.
Kizuguchi Shou: Kaede possess one ability that comes from her Zanpakutō, but it doesn't need to be in shikai or bankai to use it. This ability allows her to transfer a wound from another persons body to herself. The wound will be placed in the exact same spot that the one she took it from had it. This is usually only done if a person is dying too quickly for healing Kidō to stop or things along those lines. Because of her ability to heal so much faster than people, she is likely about to survive compared to most. If someone even adds healing Kidō into the mix, she can take a wound that would have killed someone onto herself and be healed within ten minutes, depending on the situation of course. It's just possible...
Zanpakutō
Zanpakutō Spirit Name: Nobuye
Zanpakutō Spirit Appearance: - Spoiler:
Zanpakutō Spirit Personality: Nobuye is a lot like Kaede in the aspect that she is very quiet. She doesn't talk really at all, except to Kaede herself and even that can be rare. If she does speak up, she usually only does so in moments of importance. Other than that, Nobuye is actually extremely protective of people in general, not just those she cared about. She has the habit of wanting to protect as many people as possible. She's very sacrificial and tries to convince Kaede to be the same way. Luckily Kaede doesn't always listen to her, otherwise she might be dead by now. Nobuye just doesn't like seeing people get hurt and she prefers helping instead of sitting by to watch. At times, she doesn't realized that there are just some things she can't help with.

Shikai
Shikai: Shikai Appearance:- Spoiler:
Shikai Abilities: When her shikai is released, Kaede is able to form up to six barriers. Each barrier prevents any spiritual pressure or physical object from getting through them. A single barrier is able to hold up to three people inside, depending on the size of the person. If someone is as large as Kenpachi or Chad, not many people are going to be able to fit, so that barrier will hold one. Someone the average size of Ichigo, Rangiku, or Byakuya will hold two. With people the size of Rukia, Toshiro, or Momo a barrier can hold three. Anyone within these barriers begin a healing process equal to, if not surpassing the limits of highly skilled healing Kidō practitioners. Unfortunately for Kaede, these barriers are not able to heal herself. She is able to use them for protection, but not for anything but that. When she is inside the barrier though, that particular one is able to take 80% more damage than the others. Kaede also has the ability to layer each of the barriers, but it will reduce the amount of barriers she is allowed to make. (For example, she is originally able to make six. If she were to layer the barrier, she would have to take one of those and put it on top of another, making her maximum five.) If she is able to do this, she increases the amount of damage the barrier can take by 30% with each added layer.
Each barrier appears instantly in front of their target(s), but when fired off Kaede has to be within fifty feet of the target(s). For every ten foot out of range, half a second is added to the arrival of the barrier around their target. So for example, at one hundred feet away, it would take 2.5 seconds for the barrier to arrive at their target. Once a barrier is shot off, it does not matter where the target moves, it will hit them. If they move farther away, it will take longer to get to them. If they move closer, the time it takes to get to them will decrease.
