| Vizard Template Basics Name: Kougyoku, Ren (紅玉 漣) True Age: 360 (Birthday is March 9) Gender: Female Personality: Ren can seem to have a semi-haughty personality. She walks around in fancy clothes, and complains about many small things (mainly the food in the Vizard Squadron). Ren doesn't complain about everything, just the things that could be better for minimal cost. She always has had the finer things in life, even though she is the child of a prostitute and a nobleman. And thus, seeing some cheap knockoffs of things that could be replaced by the real deal without spending much irritates her more than anything else. However, Ren has one big problem. That is... friendship. Moreso the fact that she doesn't understand what a "friend" is. She has always wanted someone she could call a friend, though she never fully understood what it meant to have—or be—a friend. In fact, that's the reason she doesn't feel like she has any now. The only person whom she sees as anything close to a friend is Solas, and that's a completely different kind of friend than what Ren has been looking for. Even though some people may consider her to be a friend, it's not like the feeling isn't returned. The feeling is normally returned in fact... simply without the title of "friend." That's Ren's problem. She sees people as what could be described as friends without using the term friend. And because Ren "lacks friends," she's rather easily upset. Or well, that's normally why she thinks she is easily upset. Not in the sense of getting mad, but Ren does have the occasional dramatic mood shift. She's moreso likely to burst into tears rather than swing a sword at someone. But don't take that as a sign she won't attack. She might. She might even be in tears when she swings the sword at someone. It depends on her mood and what exactly someone did. She does daydream about spending the day with Solas, even amid some minor teasing. Though if it gets too much, she will start crying because she feels it's them making fun of her because she "lacks friends." But the one person she loves deserves an entire paragraph—although Ren could write a book about all the good feelings she gets from Solas. Ren believes that Solas will never cheat on her. She truly trusts in Solas to the point where if Solas just said "trust me," Ren would abandon everything else and trust in Solas. The only part of Solas Ren has trouble accepting is her poor impulse control. Solas is known to kiss and sometimes grope, but has assured Ren it won't go any further. It took Ren some convincing and a bit of a deal (for every kiss and grope Solas gives to someone else, Ren gets two) before she could come to terms with it, but it's mainly because she trusts Solas that she is able to accept it. Ren has taken the title of "unofficial envoy to the Gotei" for herself, and will relay messages to and from the Vizard Squad and the Gotei 13. Although she would never admit it, she did that mainly to allow herself to see Solas more often, since she feels Solas can't come visit her due to her own position. General Appearance Appearance: Appearance Age: Around 18 Height: 158 cm (5'2") Weight: 50 kg (108 lbs) Natural Abilities Unreleased Abilities: Expert Kidō User: As the former vice-leader of the Kidoushuu, she is obviously well-versed in her Kidō. Most of her skill is not combining into a single spell or using a single, strong Kidō. It is stringing Kidō "combos." In swift movements , Ren can string different Kidō together to create incredible mixtures of Kidō. While the combos are quite magnificent in appearance, they aren't just for show. She is able to do this by controlling her energy rather well, or rather she is able to funnel and channel her energy extremely effeciently. This also makes her very talented with multi-tasking and using multiple spells at once. She actually has a special technique, which can be compared to her former commander's special skill, albeit more controlled. The technique is funneling her energy to her fingers, allowing her to fire up to ten different Kidō at once. Of course, if they're different, then it's harder to truly control and power them, making them incredibly weak on their own. But that's not what she normally uses it for. Instead, she simply increases the number of one or two spells, though normally she just uses one Kidō. For example when using this, Hyapporankan (百歩欄干) is "changed" to Senporankan (千歩欄干) simply because the "Hyaku" (100) is now "Sen" (1,000). Even high-ranking spells like Senjū Kōten Taihō are changed to the new 10 multiplication style. This makes them incredibly dangerous, but it also takes an incredibly high amount of energy from Ren to do so. Heightened Senses: Ren has a sort-of hightened sense to pressure changes. She can definitely tell when a storm will come, and she can even tell about how strong it will be. However, it's more suited as a detector for high-power unidentifieds inside Karakura. Inability to be drowned: Because of her Zanpakutō, she has delevoped her lungs to accept both water and oxygen, while the byproduct is still carbon dioxide. In a sense, she can breathe underwater, but it isn't good for prolonged use. Zanjutsu: Ren has a rather low aptititude for Zanjutsu, thanks to her not being able to manifest a full Zanpakutō in the form of a sword. However, she is moreso talented in fencing than she is Zanjutsu, if only because of her Zanpakutō's shape in Shikai and Bankai. However, it's still not something she can rely too long on. Zanpakutō: Shōumi's unreleased form takes the form of her hairpin. It is hardly usable in combat, which made her focus more on Kidō. It is about a foot and a half long, and it does slowly turn into a sharp point. However, it is, again, far from useful in combat. The head of the pin is beautiful. It resembles a water lily, except with three other decorations. There's an olive branch on the bottom and a butterfly's wing overlapping it. The final decoration is a ruby-like gem that acts as the center of the flower. Zanpakutō Release Phrase: "Spirit of sorrow and isolation… thou who controls the power to make kings, bring forth the great raging streams that judge the Earth's surface !!" Other Weapons: None Zanpakutō Spirit Zanpakutō Spirit Name: Murata (村田) Zanpakutō Spirit Appearance: Zanpakutō Spirit Personality: Ninety-five percent of the time, when you see Murata, she's going to be at least half-drunk. She doesn't drink because she is in pain. She doesn't drink because she's trying to forget. She drinks because she enjoys it. She drinks because she thinks it lets people 'free' themselves. Murata isn't very loud when drunk, nor is she very obnoxious. She is lazy and a bit '5-and-a-half-feet-tall with a bulletproof vest' instead of 'ten-feet-tall and bulletproof.' Murata gets a bit clingy once she's had too much to drink. By clingy, it can be everything from simply laying on to hugging to downright stripping for him (or her {she says 'After a few more drinks, anything goes!'}). Normally after finding someone to cling to, she'll be asleep in that person's lap in a couple of minutes. When sober,Murata is very airheaded. Most of the time when she is sober, she is recovering from the nights before when she had been drinking. So she is rarely truly 'sober' and spends most of her time in a 'post-hangover' state. She'd rather nap than do anything else... except drinking again. However, Murata has a side few see. It takes a lot for her to get angry. When she does, it's obvious. She will automatically sober up. However, she's different when serious and sober. Instead, this is when she is the most dangerous. Nothing but death could stop her from causing serious injury or death to a person that has shamed Ren in front of her. She is good with holding grudges, despite her laziness. What this means is that she handles the revenge quickly. Zanpakutō Spirit's World: Global Warming. Well, not really. Murata's inner world is a flooded city. There are only antennae and water towers that extend above the water's surface. Below is a wasteland of a city, with cars and trash still strewn about even when flooded. There is no life except Murata who knows the collapsing society better than anyone. The buildings are decaying and there is little glass remaining in the windows. Shikai Shikai: Shōumi (召海; Jap. Sea Call) Shikai Appearance: Shōumi, when released, takes the form of a rather elegant sword. In fact, it's almost too large for Ren, who is not fit to use such a sword. It's taller than she is. Except for the actual blade of the sword, it's a light blue in color. It has her hairpin's flower design at the end of the hilt. The hand guard is a pair of large water serpents that are the size of her arms. Above them, but between their heads, is a large, dark blue sphere. Then there is a wavy decoration before the actual blade. Everything before the blade itself is as long as Ren is tall. Shikai Abilities: Fog Screen: Upon release, Shōumi creates a dense fog screen around Ren for almost a full kilometer in any direction. It has no effects rather than to obscure visibility. It can be blown away, but it will reform shortly after. Water Membrane: The water membrane is the main ability of Shōumi. Essentially, Shōumi creates a large amount of water to use for its abilities, but it's not flowing around Ren or the sword. Instead, it creates a membrane around the sphere on Shōumi. - Water Dragon: In combat, this is normally how Shōumi's water membrane is used. It can be compared to Hyōrinmaru's Shikai's dragon creation. Instead of a dragon made of ice, Shōumi creates a sea serpent. It is sent from her blade, and it is rather fast when it travels. The main function of this is simply to hit someone with thick, high-pressure water to create physical damage. There are no aftereffects. It has a once per post usage.
- Sharrar (水蒸気の壁, Sharāru, Steam Wall): All of her Sharrar-style abilities negate the fog screen. They require the water of the fog to work. Sharrar itself is a rather strong water barrier surrounded Ren. It's mainly good to block large physical attacks, since the water is swirling in a way that makes it hard to break through. She can use it once per two posts.
- Sharrar Magud (隠者の水膜, Sharāru.Magudo, Water Membrane of the Hermit): Sharrar Magud is a more advanced Sharrar-style ability. By manipulating the refraction of light in water vapor, it erases a person from other people's line of sight or in other words making the caster invisible to others. It only erases her from sight. It does not cloak her heat signature, her reiatsu, her sound, etc. It can be used for two posts with a two post recharge period.
- Sharrar Sarab (水鏡の蜃気楼, Sharāru.Sarabu, Water Mirror Mirage): Sharrar Sarab is Ren's favorite technique. Ren condenses the water to form a 100-meter diameter circle. She then flattens the water's surface completely. This creates a massive mirror near Ren. The trick to it is that Ren can put some of her own reishi into it, making it capable of reflecting mid-level energy attacks. Unless the one casting the energy attack is directly ahead of the mirror with no angle whatsoever, it won't automatically return to sender. The interesting part of Sharrar Sarab is that if used passively at night, it can reflect the sky to create a beautiful backdrop. She can use it thrice per release and can keep it up for three posts with a three post recharge.
- Vainel Al-Salos (水神散弾槍, Vaineru.Arusārosu, Water God’s Shooting Spears): Vainel Al-Salos is Ren's strongest Shikai ability. It creates multiple (up to 5 per post) spears of water that she can launch towards someone. They have no side-effects, but they are as fast as a Bala. Although she can make up to 5 per post, she can only have 20 of them out at one time. If she does use all 20 at once, it de-releases her Shikai and forces her to be unable to re-release for six posts.
Bankai Bankai: Suijin Shōumi (水神召海; Jap. Water God's Sea Call) Bankai Appearance: Ren hates her Bankai's appearance. It's very... revealing. Because of that, she hates using it around Solas especially. She reains her sword from Shikai, but that's it. Her hair is changed to a dark blue and she gains an ornate hairpiece/crown. On her forehead, there is now a red jewel with two golden "arms" extending from the side. She also has a necklace with a marching red jewel. She now has a sort-of armor. The armor adds a small bit of defense, but that's because it's not meant to be defensive. Otherwise her chest would be covered by the armor. In fact, it's not so much of armor as it is a "second skin." Her arms, legs, and parts of her torso are covered by scales much like a fish. Her arms and legs have fins, and her feet look much like her Zanpakutō spirit's. She can also still has her Shikai's sword. Bankai Abilities: Enhanced Kidō: Ren is able to channel Kidō through her sword now. However, that's not all. In limited amounts, Ren can now convert normal water to reishi. Thus the more water there is in an area, the more she can convert to reishi. Enhanced Speed: Ren is able to "swim" in the air. Essentially, she's "swimming" in the water vapor. She doesn't walk due to how awkward it is to do so. The "swimming" makes her incredibly fast, since her body is somewhat aerodynamic when she does so. It has a thrice per post usage.
- Sharrar (水蒸気の壁, Sharāru, Steam Wall): Thanks to her Bankai's style, Sharrar is self-powered and does not require outside water. Sharrar itself is a rather strong water barrier surrounded Ren. It's mainly good to block large physical attacks, since the water is swirling in a way that makes it hard to break through. She can use it once per posts.
It can be used for four posts with a two post recharge period.
She can use it thrice per release and can keep it up for five posts with a three post recharge.
- Sharrar Merra (酸性雨, Sharāru Merrua, Acid Rain): This is a rather dangerous ability which she does not like using. Sharrar Merra is, essentially, acid rain. It lasts for four posts. The first post only has minor stinging and buildings are not affected. The second post has irritation and the skin is red. Buildings have discoloration. The third post is when it starts creating boils and buildings have minor damage. The fourth post is when it eats away at whatever it's touching, unless there is a rather strong energy-based barrier. Diving into water is also an option, but it's not suggested thanks to Ren's affinity. The trick to cancelling Sharrar Merra is to strike the sphere on Ren's sword. If that is struck, the rain stops and the damage even reverses. If it is not struck and is let to go on, the damage is not reversed. It has a once per release usage.
- Vainel Ganezza (水神召海, Vaineru Ganezza, Water God’s Sea Call): Vainel Ganezza is her final ability. Ren uses the rest of the energy from her Bankai to create enough water to flood a city the size of Karakura to the point to where cars are completely underwater. It takes a full post to charge, during which it can be cancelled by striking the sphere on her sword. If it is struck, Ren exits Bankai and can not re-release during the thread. If it is cracked, she is hurt severely. If it is shattered, she is in a very dire condition, but her Bankai itself is not shattered and will fix itself. After the post of charging, the water will rain from a single point around Ren. This is like a single, massive stream of water that floods from that point. It will completely evaporate four posts after Ren un-releases Bankai.
- Vainel Ganezza—Yari no Yōshiki (水神召海—槍の様式, Vaineru Ganezza, Water God’s Sea Call—Spear Style): Although she doesn't have this ability mastered yet, this is perhaps Ren's strongest ability. It takes all of the water—and water pressure—from Vainel Ganezza and condenses it into a single spear. The spear is larger than she is and looks like a drill created by swirling water. She will then fire it towards whatever target she so wants, and it shoots with extreme force—and speed. Essentially, it is basically restricting the water flow from the original Vainel Ganezza's "flooding" to create to create a high-pressure bullet (or lance, in this wording). She can do it only once per release. Like Vainel Ganezza, it takes a full post to charge, during which it can be cancelled by striking the sphere on her sword. If it is struck, Ren exits Bankai and can not re-release during the thread. If it is cracked, she is hurt severely. If it is shattered, she is in a very dire condition, but her Bankai itself is not shattered and will fix itself.
Vizard Abilities Inner Hollow Appearance: Ren's inner hollow is an average height slim woman. She has blue eyes and long black hair that extends past her shoulders, with some hair tied in loops on the sides. She has thin eyebrows, a beauty mark under her lips, and wears lipstick. She also wears a small hat, and a dress that resembles what Ren wears. Inner Hollow Personality: Ahhh... her inner hollow seems so nice. She's almost like a loving mother. She won't barge into Ren's personal life and leaves her alone when having special time with Solas. She might even leave a tray of cookies if she could. Though, those cookies would be laced with cyanide. Truth be told, her inner hollow is a bitch. A deceiptful, manipulative, downright evil bitch. She doesn't really care about what Ren feels. If Ren tries to do anything against her inner hollow, the inner hollow breaks Ren's spirit. She's a bitch and is proud of it, plain and simple. Hollow Mask Appearance: Before Bankai, her mask is rather simplistic and rounded. It follows her pre-Bankai color scheme very faithfully. When in Bankai, the Mask changes decorations and the color scheme now matches her Bankai's scheme. Vizard Abilities: Cero: Ren's Cero is a dark blue color, with a turquoise outline. It's rather strong, though it is not as quick as most other of Cero of people on her level. She is slowly learning how to put more energy into the speed rather than sheer power. Enhanced durability: Ren's arms are covered in a hierro-like armor that is used by using water molecules. It is impossible for it to ever be strong enough to cover her entire body. However, it is a good surprise defense that can withstand a good sword swing or two before shattering. Past & Roleplay Sample
Character Background: Ren is an illegitimate child. Her mother was a prostitute, and her father was a retainer for one of the branch houses of the Four Noble Houses. Due to the fact that her father had very distinct eyes and hair, there was a high a chance that it would be passed down to whatever child her mother would bear. Thus, Ren's father took her mother into a sort-of protective custody in his small manor. He wasn't a rich man by no means, but he was more than well-off. Ren's mother gave birth to Ren, and passed away during childbirth. And, like the father predicted... Ren had her father's hair. However, she had her mother's eyes.
The man did... somewhat care for Ren's mother, but it wasn't as if he loved her. He had a wife whom had passed away as well during childbirth. His sister helped raise his former wife's children, and Ren was added to that bunch. Because of who her mother was, Ren wasn't able to go outside of the manor. She was to be locked away in the case of company. Ren's very existence was a thorn in the side of her father, but he did love her as she was of his blood. Her siblings did not. They did acknowledge her as being of the same father... but they would not recognize her as a sister. Ren was told by them constantly "We're not your friends, but you carry father's blood, so I can't help but to help you." They didn't care about Ren, but the blood she carried.
Ren was given hand-me-downs of everything the other children didn't want or had grown out of, but most of it was in near-perfect condition. She was taught in the manor by someone who had more to lose than Ren's father. While Ren doesn't remember that man's name or fact, she does remember that he was a kind man who didn't care for nor despised Ren. He was neutral on her. He saw her as an individual, but as well as a burden. Ren was just glad that she was being seen for something other than her father's blood. Eventually, the man suggested a radical idea to both Ren and her father. To make sure that she wouldn't be a further burden to the family, Ren was to become a Shinigami and be stationed there. She would not take her father's name, and would have a fabricated past that would be "made acceptable" to those that supervised enrollment. Ren had no choice in the matter, and she realized that the moment the idea came out of the kind man's mouth. Even though it was throwing her to a dangerous lifestyle, Ren was glad that someone found a way to remove the burden from her father. After her father accepted, Ren asked her teacher if they were friends. He calmly responded "I did something to help your father. We are not friends."
Ren was not a prodigy in the academy. She was shy, but haughty when she had to speak. She, even though he didn't accept her fully, was proud of her father's blood. Even with all of the troubles it had caused, Ren was proud of it. She felt it somehow made her better than most. When she was assigned a training Zanpakutō, it broke. Because of an unprecedented shortage, as well as Ren's instructor being a hardass, she was forced to use that broken sword for the rest of her academy days. Because she'd get exceptionally low marks on Zanjutsu due to this, she decided to focus on the other things to be able to make up for that failure. This mainly started with Kidō, where Ren was instantly taken in by the library of the arcane. Ren was still no prodigy, but she would have to be better than one to make up for her mistake.
Upon graduation, Ren was placed into the Fifth Division. She was mainly used as a errand girl, delivering paperwork to different divisions. She was known for her uniform having large sleeves, and there were always rumors of what she kept up them. However, Ren still had that broken Zanpakutō. Eventually, she began hearing a voice inside her head. If this had been the world of the living, she would've been institutionalized. But no, this was normal. This was her Zanpakutō finally manifesting. Ren was exceptionally happy and began talking back to it. Of course, it looked like she was talking to herself so she was somewhat ostracized. She was further alone, and that pushed her back to her studies of Kidō. She began to learn Kidō at an incredibly impressive pace. She wasn't recognized officially for any of it, but there were gears turning beneath the surface.
Every year, new members would join. She never made friends with any of the new ones, nor any of the old ones. Ren saw the Division go through multiple Captains as she slowly rose through the ranks. During the point between the one with the long hair and the one with white hair, Ren had learned her Shikai. It was unwieldy for someone of her small size, but the abilities it had were perfect for her. She trained with using both her Shikai and Kidō until around 2000, when she began her Bankai training. She completed it in 40 years, while also making a name for herself. How? Kidō. She was exceptionally talented, and none of it could be blamed on being a prodigy. It was all hard work. In 2042, when a former squad-mate was promoted, Ren was also promoted to his side as the lieutenant.
Ren still trained in Kidō as well as her Shikai and Bankai even after being promoted. She was soon able to develop a new way for her to use Kidō, and added that to her regiment. In 2060, Ren was approached by a member of the Kidō Corps. She was to be transferred there, as per the Kidō Corps general's orders. Ren was surprised. She felt that there were more suitable people to go into that prestigious unit... but she was chosen. She was acknowledged for her ability. She thanked the Captain for the opportunity and pleasure to serve under him and left the 5th Division for good.
Ren's first order as a member of the Kidoushuu was to meet to General. Ren had no idea who it was... but she could tell it was definitely that person that shot off Kidō at her when she arrived at their barracks. Yes, as soon as Ren entered the barracks, two Kidō (Ren doesn't remember what they were or what they looked like). Ren avoided the first one, moving her hand to block the second one. But she wouldn't block it by defense. She countered it with five Kidō being compacted to one area, diffusing the other Kidō as it collided with her own. The Kidō were channeled through her fingers and thumb, which allowed her to use a ridiculous number of Kidō. Ren didn't know why she was attacked, but a cheery "You passed~" coming from beyond her view was enough for Ren to connect the dots. It was nothing more than a test to see if her placement was a fluke or not. To the General, it wasn't.
The General introduced hersal as Solas Foiche, and admitted she was impressed by what Ren could do. Over the next few years, Solas personally trained Ren. She taught her more control and how to add more reishi when it's needed. Solas always was there to help Ren. She wasn't doing it because of an obligation or because of Ren's bloodline... but because of Ren herself. This made Ren grow ever closer to Solas, as well as vice-versa. Eventually, Ren began feeling something strange. It was a sort of dependence on Solas, but... it was much deeper than that. It was more like a completion. Solas, essentially, completed the missing part Ren was unable to finish herself. Ren was embarrassed of such a feeling, so she didn't tell Solas. Instead, she began to read up on it. She read quick, cheap romance novels to try to get ideas on what to say and do.
Eventually, Ren mustered up the courage. In Solas's office, she talked about her life. Solas is the only person to know about Ren's mother and father. Ren began to tear up remembering it. And before she could finish and tell Solas how she felt, Solas rose and walked over to comfort her. Ren, due to her confused state... stood up as Solas began to lean down to comfort her. However, Ren skipped the part about telling Solas how she felt... and decided to do it with an action. The one flaw in this... was that Solas did the same thing. The duo's lips met, as they were supposed to from both sides' plans. The difference was that there was no knowledge the other felt the same way. They stood there, their lips still attached, confused. It wasn't until they had a hard time breathing that they parted. Ren began crying, which worried Solas until Ren murmured "thank you" many times. These were not tears of sorrow, but of happiness.
The two entered a semi-discreet relationship. This meant that no one talked about it, but everyone knew about it. Ren was almost always seen around Solas, which made it somewhat obvious (most of the knowledge of their relationship came from certain sounds heard in the middle of the night). However, Ren was also growing ever-stronger by being under Solas's wing. However, this brought about another sense of arrogance. It was when a strange hollow who was impervious to the strikes of a Zanpakutō due to its body construction attacked that this arrogance bit back. The hollow was, essentially,a blob. It would take a massive arrangement of Kidō to capture and destroy it. Instead of sending out many Shinigami, Ren decided she'd prove how much she had learned to Solas.
Ren was able to easily use what would take four or five Shinigami to do single-handedly. However, the explosion that finally destroyed the black and white blob splashed some of it onto Ren. And that blob seeped into her body. She began feeling sick as soon as she returned to the barracks. A medical team couldn't identify what was wrong with her. She was not hospitalized, but was put on reserve duty. On a walk to visit Solas... she collapsed. She began to hollowfy. She was able to cast an immobilizing Kidō on herself before she was able to lose control of her body. When she confronted her inner hollow, the inner hollow tried to attack Ren's weakpoints. She said Ren had no friends, was worthless, etc. And that did make Ren's determination waiver... until she remembered Solas. Solas was what gave her worth, and what made her realize she already had some. The two fought, but it was Ren who came out the victor. However... it was the end of her career as a Shinigami.
Ren couldn't face Solas. She ran away. She ran right past the 5th Division, where the Captain noticed Ren. Actually, Ren knew the Captain. Kaminari Hatakeyama, a fellow former member of the 5th Division under Snopy. When Ren transferred, Kaminari took her position. And when Snopy left, Kaminari took that position. Ren and Kaminari weren't close, at least in Ren's eyes. Ren always respected Kaminari for the dedication she put into her work, and was not surprised to hear rumors about her being in the running for the next Captain-Commander. Ren couldn't talk about what had just happened, even if Kaminari was someone she respected. However, Kaminari was able to pick up on what had happened. Ren remembers Kaminari muttering "Just like him..." She then told Ren to go to the world of the living and there would be someone who would support her. She gave the new Vizard an address and told her to leave as soon as possible.
Ren thanked Kaminari almost too formally, and then rushed back to her own quarters. She packed as much as she could, and then left a letter to Solas explaining everything. Ren left using the Kidoushuu's personal Senkaimon. She arrived at the address to see a familiar face—her former Captain. Ren explained everything to Snopy, and he invited her to join his newly-formed organization. She met a few faces she had seen before. She also trains with them to make sure her Vizard powers are still under control. Ren still has a pass to see Solas, so she acts as an informal diplomat to the Gotei, though business isn't the only reason she travels back.
